2020 Kia Sorento Officially

Kia’s biggest SUV

The cancellation of the Geneva Motor Show was a great loss for the organizers and for all the manufacturers who were prepared to exhibit the new models for 2020. Among them was the Korean giant Kia that would present, among other things, the new Sorento model. Now the public will be able to see it directly in the car showrooms all over Europe in the period July-September.

How is the new Kia Sorento?

To begin with, the dimensions are almost unchanged. The chassis is new, but the length increases by only 1cm (481cm total) and the width is also (190cm) while the most interesting “promise” comes from the opening between the axles that have increased by 3.5cm, normally for the benefit of passengers. Given that a large SUV must first and foremost guarantee comfort, Kia has also changed the depreciation system to have more comfort and more dynamics in the guide. The overall look of the new model is important and modern.

The Design

The design is oriented to maintain continuity with the previous model, but by modernizing it. The giant masquerade that includes headlights inside is a new element for Kia which turns out to be a hit element. The profile has harmonious lines with a sporty “cut” that is evidenced by the angle of the glass and cabin in the rear area while from the back Sorento has a solid look with chrome elements in which the Korean manufacturer is not spared.

Inside

From the inside the design remains relatively traditional, but Kia promises that the quality of the materials used has increased. The attention to technology and detail brings a modern car. Led screens occupy a leading place in the interior space. The digital frame measures 12.3 ”while the infotainment measures 8” or 10.25” depending on the version. The Cambio lever has disappeared to make way for a rotating Jaguar Land Rover style model.

The Motorization

From the motor point of view, hybrid motorization stands out based on the 1,600 cubic motor unit accompanied by an electric motor with 60 horsepower. The total power of the system is 230 horsepower. The gearbox is automatic with (only) six gears.

In addition, the Sorento also offers the possibility of a diesel engine based on the traditional 2,200 cubic engine with 202 horsepower. The automatic gearbox in this case is double friction and robotic with eight gears.

The Electronics

The electronics in this model have an important voice as it enables traction control, power-sharing on axes according to the terrain and automatic gearbox ratios. The power on the wheels is controlled autonomously for each of them and guarantees optimal traction in the guide outside the asphalt when we may encounter mud, sand, or snow.

The Kia Sorento is also equipped with a range of Adas systems.

Prices and Availability

Sales will begin in the second half of the year, but we still don’t have the price list for the versions that the new Kia Sorento will offer.
