The company introduced what it calls the ‘world’s first’ 16-core gaming processor, the Ryzen 9 3950X, which goes on sale in September for $749.

AMD CEO Lisa Su said that this processor has the highest frequency ever implemented by 4.7Ghz and a 72MB of cache.

In the wake of AMD‘s efforts to break Intel‘s hegemony through a combination of performance, value and efficiency, the Zen 2 hardware operates in the 105 watt range.

Of course there are many factors that determine the value of a gaming processor beyond the core that is not always translated into performance.

However, the new Ryzen add-on is a powerful challenge that adds pressure to Intel, especially after introducing at Computex last month the 12-core 3900X model.
