New 2020 Audi A3 Saloon Revealed: Will rival BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe

Audi has confirmed the two engines that will be offered with it, one with diesel and the other with gasoline

Audi has unveiled a new A3 Saloon (Sedan), the second model in the shape of the A3 Saloon, which directly rivals the Mercedes A-Class Saloon and the BMW Series 2 Gran Coupe.

Unlike the previous A3 Saloon model, this four-door model is 40mm longer, 22mm wider and 10mm higher. In other words, in a 4.5-meter-long sedan, the space on board improves while the luggage retains the same capacity as the previous model, but still protects well with 425 liters of volume. Inside, the new Audi A3 Saloon has a 10.25-inch display that shows speed, engine revs and other like that.

The Design

The design of the 2020 A3 sedan seems a step ahead of the previous model. Where the old model gave a sense of effort to create the traditional model on the basis of a hatchback model, the current model has overcome this stage. It seems that 4cm more in length and 2 cm less in height have enabled optimization in lines and ratios and the new model looks more like a small A4. From the inside there is no difference with the five-door version.

The Engines

In terms of engines we will find a wide range of choices that includes what is currently offered by Audi. The A3 Sedan will be offered with 2.0 hp diesel engines with 150 horsepower and two turbocharged versions with 1,500 cc petrol with 150 hp, one of which will be the Mild Hybrid, aided by a 48 Volt battery that helps the engine with petrol at times when more power is required. The electric generator-battery system offers 12 horsepower and 50Nm of extra torque, which helps performance and consumption.

The New 2020 Audi A3 Sedan is scheduled to arrive in concessionaire starting in July this year.

2021 Audi A3 Sportback: Price, Specs

The fourth generation is unveiled in Ingolstadt

The ring maker has revealed a few days ago the fourth generation of the best-selling model Audi A3. The new model debuts with the Sportback version (with five doors) where the differences are more than distinct with the older generation.

The front view

It matches the design of the other family models, with the geometric shape of the dominant single frame maskerino. Led lanterns stand out, which have a technological look, while below them we find two air (false) mouthpieces which are integrated with the overall design. The profile retains its muscular shape while the back is completely Audi style and if we have to find a resemblance in the family, this would be the Q3 Sportback model.

From the inside

The A3 brings significant changes compared to the previous generation. The technological aspect is transmitted by the presence of many digital screens while, including the frame and the whole interior looks curated. The two climber exits located next to the digital dashboard stand out, while the infotainment screen is integrated into the dashboard.

Technologically, the Audi A3 includes the contemporary level of what the Volkswagen Group can offer. Here we can mention the automatic gearbox with the command not with lever but with stick, this is possible thanks to the technology “shift by wire”, similar to what we have seen in Golf VIII.

In the space below the commands of the air conditioner, the mobile can be charged wireless, while integration with infotainment is possible through the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto platforms. For the latter, the connection is made by cable, while the “wireless” connection is possible via Bluetooth.

ADAS technology in guide and safety assistance includes emergency braking, lane keeping, active cruise control, etc.

Motorizations

As is the general trend already, privilege the hybrid and gasoline technology (including factory-installed gas plants).

As a start, the engines are three: 35 TFSI with petrol, with 1,500 cubic meters of engine and 150 horsepower and 30 and 35 TDI diesel, based on the same 2,000 cubic meters with power of 116 and 150 horsepower respectively. Furthermore, versions with the 1.0 TFSI engine with three cylinders, sports versions S3 with the 2.0 TFSI engine with 310 horsepower, or the version with methane gas 30 g-tron with 131 horsepower are also foreseen.

The plug-in hybrid version is based on the 1.4 TFSI engine that develops two power levels, 204 and 245 horsepower.

The three-door version will no longer be produced while the versions proposed to the public will be Base, Business, Business Advanced and S-line

Price and availability

The order book were opened in March 2020 for the 2021 Audi A3 Sportback, at a starting price of €28,900. The delivers are scheduled for May 2020, but due to coronavirus pandemic it is unclear if this will effect that schedule.
