Meet the iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max: Everything You Need to Know

Meet the iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max: Everything You Need to Know

On Tuesday evening Apple unveiled a new set of phones including the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

These new phones come with a new chip, new cameras and are available in different colors and sizes.

Let’s go into their details.

iPhone 11

Design

iPhone 11 has an aluminum and glass design, and Apple says it is the strongest glass ever mounted on a smartphone. The phone comes in several colors such as: white, blue, yellow, purple, black and red.

This next-gen phone has a 6.1-inch Liquid Retina display that you just have to touch to wake it up and haptic feedback.

iPhone 11
iPhone 11

Camera

Apple has clearly put a lot of energy into the iPhone 11 camera which consists of two sensors: a 12-megapixel, 26mm f/1.8 and a super wide-angle 12-megapixel f/2.4.

Thanks to the wide-angle camera, users can see what’s beyond the standard camera frame.

On the software side Apple has introduced a new image processor that processes over 1 trillion operations for each photo. The company talked about a technique called “semantic rendering” that changes the brightness of photos based on the subjects it focuses on.

This helps to isolate and improve the quality of portrait photos that can already be taken with animals and not just humans.

The iPhone 11 has a “Night Mode” competing with Samsung and Google. By merging several captured images into a single background combined with software techniques the company can reduce the loss of quality in low light.

Video

In terms of video, the iPhone 11 can capture 4K video at 60fps, deliver slow-motion, time-lapse images. The video app interface has some changes. We can mention the style of recording videos on Instagram where while shooting photos you can hold down the button to make videos.

On the front camera, Apple has a wide-angle sensor that can deliver 4K video at 30/60fps, even slow-motion.

Specs

As usual with a new Apple phone sell the new processor as well. Apple A13 Bionic has the most powerful processor and graphics of a smartphone says Apple. About the battery, the company does not provide details except that the iPhone 11 lasts 1 hour longer than the iPhone XR.

Price and availability

iPhone 11 starts at $699. Orders starts on Friday September 13th while the phone is in stores from September 20th.

iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max

Design

Unlike the iPhone 11, the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max have three rear cameras with steel construction materials and a glass rear cover. The phone comes in four colors: green, gray, white and gold.

The Screen

iPhone 11 Pro has a 5.8-inch screen while the Pro Max a 6.5-inch. Both models have 2M:1 Super Retina OLED display, 1,200nits brightness and True Tone technology. In fact the company calls this screen the Super Retina XDR.

Key Specs

Like the iPhone 11, the Pro and Pro Max models come with the A13 Bionic chip. Battery life on the iPhone 11 Pro is four hours longer than the iPhone XS while the 11 Pro is 5 hours longer than the iPhone XS Max.

Both phones come with 18W fast charging technology.

Camera

The one who stole the iPhone 11 show was obviously the camera, or the camera system of the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max.

Pro models have three 12-megapixel rear cameras each: a 26mm wide-angle, a 52mm telephoto and a 13mm super wide-angle. The latter reaches a 120-degree field of view. The camera system also has a new feature called Deep Fusion. This feature captures nine images which the image processor and the neural engine combine pixel by pixel into one image thanks to the A13 Bionic power.

Apple says the cameras are factory-calibrated so that when switching between sensors, there is no change in exposure, focus and color temperature.

Price and availability

iPhone 11 Pro starts at $999 and iPhone 11 Pro Max at $1,099. Orders starts on Friday September 13th and shipments on September 20th.

Kirin 990 5G is Huawei's response to Samsung and Qualcomm processors

Kirin 990 5G is Huawei’s response to Samsung and Qualcomm processors

A few days ago Samsung revealed Exynos 980, the company’s first processor with a built-in 5G modem.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

In February, Qualcomm also revealed that it is developing a mobile platform with integrated 5G.

Today at the IFA 2019 Technology Fair, Huawei unveiled the Kirin 990 5G and calls it the first 5G processor in the industry. The new chip comes with radio technology that will prepare a host of future-standard devices even though Huawei still does not offer mmWave support.

Past 5G chips needed a separate modem. Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, for example, is compatible with the 5G X50 modem but had a built-in LTE X24 model.

But this race in 5G would not make sense until more networks and devices were widely available, though this fact is not stopping companies from making statements.

Kirin 990 5G is a 7-nanometer chip with eight cores and has 10.3 billion transistors. It uses two large cores, two medium and four small ones to optimize the performance of several applications simultaneously at speeds of 2.86Ghz, 2.36Ghz and 1.95Ghz respectively.

990 5G also has a 16-core Mali G76 graphics card providing enough power for video games. But Huawei demands attention on 5G and Artificial Intelligence. The company says the Kirin 990 5G can reach speeds of up to 2.3Gbps in download and 1.25Gbps in upload.

By comparison, the 5G Snapdragon X55 modem can reach up to 7Gbps because Qualcomm supports mmWave technology and Huawei no. Qualcomm has not yet introduced a 5G integrated processor.

Kirin 990 5G neural processor can be used for tasks like voice and face recognition. The processor also includes a 5th generation image processor. Kirin 990 5G is expected to be unveiled at the company’s next flagship and until we see it on a real device it will be difficult to see its benefits.

Samsung's new processor brings 5G to mid-range phones

Samsung’s new processor brings 5G to mid-range phones

Samsung unveiled the first mobile processor which combines a 5G modem and processor into a single chip and is called the Exynos 980.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

To date, a second chip is needed for the 5G modem alongside the processor chip, while the new model paves the way for more compact designs and higher battery life.

Exynos 980 promises gigabit speeds on 4G LTE and up to 2.55Gbps on 5G network and 6Ghz frequency. The processor also offers support for the new Wi-Fi 6 IEEE 802.11ax standard.

Inside features two Cortex-A77 cores and six Cortex-A55 cores combined with Mali-G76 graphics for video games and added reality experiences. The processor even has a built-in neural unit (NPU) which means that tasks related to artificial intelligence can be processed on the device rather than sent to a server.

Samsung says the Exynos 980 NPU is 2.7 times faster than its predecessor. Finally comes with an image processor that can process up to 108 million pixels and five individual camera sensors.

This is a big step for Samsung and the industry. While 5G is tomorrow’s standard, people expect more and more speed and performance from phones every day. Of course 5G faces other challenges such as coverage, security but also the equipment available to utilize it.

Samsung Galaxy A90

Samsung Galaxy A90 is a mid-range Phone with high-end Specifications

Most of the 5G phones we have seen recently have been flagships of big names like Galaxy Note 10 Plus 5G, Galaxy S10+ 5G or OnePlus 7 Pro 5G.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

But Samsung‘s latest 5G phone is a mid-range phone and belongs to the Galaxy A line.

In recent months the company has introduced other mid-range Galaxy A models that come with high-end options such as four-camera systems in an effort to combat the aggressive competition of Chinese manufacturers.

Such is the case with the Galaxy A90 5G which also has support for the Samsung DeX. Galaxy A90 5G has a Snapdragon 855 processor, 6 or 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

The 6.7-inch display is a 1080p OLED panel with a small “Infinity-U” notch and a built-in fingerprint scanner. At the rear is a triple camera system with a 48-megapixel main sensor, an 8-megapixel super wide camera and a 5-megapixel depth sensor along with a 32-megapixel selfie camera.

The battery is 4,500 mAh and is powered by 25W technology. 5G of course makes a difference to phones of the same category as the Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro. The phone is on sale today in South Korea while the company has not provided details about the price.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 and Note 8 Pro Officially Revealed

Xiaomi unveiled the latest phone of the very popular Redmi Note series and just as the Redmi Note 7 had a 48-megapixel camera, Redmi Note 8 Pro has a 64-megapixel sensor.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

Two days ago Realme introduced the XT model with the same sensor but Xiaomi has already made the full presentation. Why would you need a 64-megapixel camera? Like 48-megapixel phones, you cannot capture full-resolution photos.

Both sensor designs contain 0.8µm pixels but grouped four together to provide better sensitivity to light. Using this technique a 48-megapixel camera produces 12-megapixel images while with the new 64-megapixel sensor you will get 16-megapixel resolution.

However the Redmi Note 8 Pro has a reason to buy it and the rest of the hardware is what you would expect from an Xiaomi phone. The 6.55-inch 1080p display and four rear cameras where in addition to the 64-megapixel sensor it offers a super wide 8-megapixel and two 2-megapixel assist. Recall that the front sensor is 20-megapixels.
