Google gets the green light for Android licensing at Huawei

It has not been a month since the United States imposed a ban on US companies doing business with Huawei citing national security concerns.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

Two days ago President Trump relaxed his tone when he said American companies could continue to do business with the telecommunications giant. While it is unknown how long this “permit” extends and if it will be applies to 5G technology, one thing is certain that Google and Huawei will continue to cooperate.

Under US sanction terms, Google decided to revoke Huawei’s Android license, which means that the company’s phones will not use the Play Store or Google’s services. While Trump did not mention specific companies like Google, Qualcomm and Intel, he cited the complex products and technologies created by American companies.

“What we did in the Silicon Valley is tremendous, and no one has been able to compete with it and we have agreed that our companies will continue to sell Huawei-s products,” Trump said.

While American sanctions had not yet come into effect due to 90-day permissions, it had started to affect Huawei’s upcoming products. Now Google is once again ready to license Huawei’s Android.

American companies continue to do business with Huawei in violation of Trump’s order

American chip makers are still sending millions of dollars of products to Huawei bypassing Trump’s executive order that forbids something like that, the New York Times reported.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″ tdc_css=””]

The sale of components to Huawei began three weeks ago reported the American prestige.

Sources close to the newspaper said Intel and Micron are benefiting from the way products are labeled for sending to Huawei as products that are manufactured abroad by American companies and are not considered American.

Last month, Huawei was placed on the black list of trade by banning the sale and purchase of technology from American companies. The executive order came as a concern of the United States of the close ties that Huawei has with the Chinese government, while the latter has repeatedly denied the allegations.

A week after Trump signed the executive order, the Department of Commerce eased some of the restrictions applied to Huawei by guaranteeing a temporary license so that the phone maker could update their software.

The movement caused much confusion in the industry. Micron CEO said he had initially stopped selling Huawei products but had resumed two weeks later.

Each company is affected differently because of the specific products and supply chains they have.

Microsoft Restart Selling Huawei Laptops

Microsoft Restart Selling Huawei Laptops

Microsoft in a mysterious way removed the Huawei laptop line from online stores last month following a Trump executive order to block the Chinese company.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″ tdc_css=””]

While the software giant has been silent about whether to license Windows to Huawei for the laptops line or not, the latter are beginning to reappear in online stores this week. Currently MateBook 13, Mate Book and MateBook X Pro models have been restored. In addition to the MateBook X Pro models that are listed as “no stock,” others are available for purchase.

Microsoft confirmed to The Verge that laptops that are on sale are currently in stock until their full sale. When asked if he would continue to sell Huawei products that contradicted the new US regulation, the company insisted that the products were in inventory.

Finally, Huawei announced the postponement of the debut of new Windows laptops that were scheduled for CES Asia last week. It is unknown what the laptop was in the company’s plans, but the cause is clear, the US executive order and the uncertainty as American technology companies will react to it.

According to speculations unmatched laptops are MateBook 14 and an updated model of the MateBook X Pro.

The Released Patent Reveals Huawei’s Folding Phone, with a new Approach

While Huawei has delayed their folding Mate X phone, to ensure that there will not be a failure like Samsung and “hurt their reputation,” the R & D department is working hard on the second or in the future device of the folding phone.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″ tdc_css=””]

A recently discovered patent application suggests a dual approach, with a screen that can be wrapped around the edges when folded.

LetsGoDigital‘s images are a better representation of what Huawei has in mind.

Like Mate X, this device folds twice, and compared to Samsung is the most practical solution – the Chinese company believes.

American Chip Giants Seek Easing Sanctions Against Huawei

American chip makers, including Qualcomm and Intel, quietly pressed the US government to ease sanctions against the Chinese technology giant.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″ tdc_css=””]

Intel and Xilinx executives attended a meeting at the end of May with the Commerce Department to discuss Huawei’s response in placing the company on the blacklist. Sanctions prevent US suppliers from selling Huawei technology, which is the world’s largest telecommunications equipment manufacturer without the approval of the US government.

The latter believes Huawei is a threat to national security. Qualcomm also discussed with the Department of Commerce regarding the matter. Chip makers argue that products like smartphones and computers do not pose the same risk as 5G technology and infrastructure.

“What we say does not help Huawei. It simply prevents a great deal of damage to American companies, “said one of the company’s representatives.

From $70 billion spent by Huawei on component purchases in 2018, $11 billion went to American firms such as Qualcomm, Intel and Micron.

Qualcomm, for example, wants to pursue Huawei’s supply of smartphones and clocks. Google, which sells Huawei’s most popular software in the world, Android, wants to continue collaborating with it.

Huawei itself has done little to lobby in Washington but is considering sending a letter to the Department of Commerce.

Sanctions against Huawei are giving the first blows to American technology giants

Broadcom sent a shock wave to the chip manufacturing industry on Friday, warning that US-China trade warfare and prohibition of doing business with Huawei will cause the company $2 billion in losses.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″ tdc_css=””]

Broadcom’s warning is the clearest proof of the damage Trump’s trade war with Beijing is causing. Brodacom’s shares declined by 8.6%, dropping $9 billion in market value from a company that had headquarters in Asia in the past, but now in America.

The chip manufacturer like Qualcomm, Applied Materials, Intel, AMD and Xilinx also saw the shares fall between 1.5% and 3%. Shares of almost all Huawei suppliers fell.

Huawei accounted for $900 million in Broadcom’s sales, or 4% of it. The semiconductor industry has faced low demand since mid-2018, and the latest geopolitical war along with sanctions against Huawei are a shock.

Broadcom, known for its Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS smartphone chips, is also a major supplier of Apple.

CEO of another American chip giant Micron Technology said sanctions against Huawei bring uncertainty and concern to the semiconductor industry.

Huawei Postpones the Debut of The Mate X Foldable Phone

Huawei Postpones the Debut of The Mate X Foldable Phone

The Chinese giant told CNBC and the Wall Street Journal that it was doing tests to make the device ready for customers and was acting cautiously after news of Samsung Galaxy Fold problems.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″ tdc_css=””]

The latter debuted in April but shipments were postpones indefinitely after the devices was broken just a few days of use by media analysts.

The biggest problem for Huawei is not only the sustainability of the phone but also the effects of American sanctions. Because Huawei was placed on the black list, American firms can not sell or license Huawei technology. All this situation has caused great trouble that no company would want it to be. Google has revoked the Android license, while Microsoft is expected to do the same with Windows.

Based on this, it is unknown whether Mate X will come with Android or not. CNBC says Huawei will come up with Android because it was launched before Huawei list it in the blacklist. WSJ says this is being discussed.

An alternative is the launch of phone with Huawei system operation that he has started testing. Mate X was launched in February and was well received by analysts. The 8-inch OLED screen just folds into two. It has 8GB of RAM and 5G technology but costs 2,299 euros.

Huawei Records the new Operating System for Smartphones

Huawei is reported that is near the registration and licensing of the new operating system called “Hongmeng” in Peru. This move by giant technology comes at a time when it faces American sanctions that ban the use of company technology like Microsoft, Intel, Qualcomm and Google.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″ tdc_css=””]

Last Month, Google decided to discontinue Android updates to its company. Huawei phones are currently working on a Google Android version and the company has said there are no immediate plans to launch the Hongmeng operating system.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Huawei had started inviting developers to publish their apps in the App Gallery store. A trademark application for Hongmeng was made at the National Institute for the Protection of Free Competition and Intellectual Property, according to Reuters news agency.

On the other hand, Google has warned the Trump administration and Huawei’s blockade puts at risk American national security. While Huawei said it takes more time to become the world’s largest smartphone maker. Yesterday, it was said that Huawei has postponed the debut of the new laptop.

Huawei’s newest phones will be sold without Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp

Facebook will not allow installation of applications on Huawei smartphones as reported by Reuters news agency. This is the latest example of Western technology companies that have begun to break the relationship with China’s telecommunications giant after Trump’s administration put it on the blacklist of trade.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″ tdc_css=””]

Actual Huawei’s phone owners can still download and use WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook apps and will receive ongoing updates through the Play Store.

However, Huawei can no longer include apps on new phones when they go on sale in stores.

Huawei’s phones and those in stores will have Facebook apps as well as Google services. But Facebook will deny installing applications on phones that have not yet come out of the factory.

However, the news is not as problematic as Google and ARM’s decisions limiting the company’s Android and the ability to develop its chips. It’s a blow to Huawei’s plans to build an app store beyond the Google Play Store.

Huawei is forbidden to use SD and microSD cards

Huawei is forbidden to use SD and microSD cards

Things are getting worse for Huawei. The company is forbidden to be a member of the SD Association, the SD and micro SD group responsible for standardizing the cards.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″ tdc_css=””]

Changing status means that Huawei can no longer offer products with the official SDA brand and will be excluded from setting new standards.

SD Association confirmed that Huawei was removed from the group in response to the US executive order. Last week, the US Department of Commerce banned American companies from doing business with Huawei and its 70 subsidiaries.

The company is forbidden to accept equipment and technology but also funding without the approval of the government. New Order joins Truma’s signed ban on using Huawei telecommunications equipment from mobile and landline operators in the US.

Huawei said consumers could buy and use SD cards with existing phones, but it is unknown how this decision will affect Huawei’s future phones and devices.

The latter has tried to distance itself from SD format in favor of Nano memory cards.

Removal from the SD Assocation is definitely a blow to Huawei but very small compared to those of other companies. Google stopped supporting Android while Intel, Qualcomm and AMD disconnected the supply of chips.
