iPhone 12 vs. OnePlus 8T

iPhone 12 vs. OnePlus 8T – where should you money go?

A few days after the launch of the iPhone 12 on October 13, OnePlus unveiled the OnePlus 8T

Both phones will be available from October 23 and will compete to seduce new buyers. The price for both smartphones is more or less the same, while the iPhone 12 costs $799 for the base model, the OnePlus 8T comes for a price of $749 – there is practically only $50 that separates these two devices. So a comparison of the specifications and features of these close competitors – iPhone 12 and OnePlus 8T was inevitable, writes slashgear.

Apple 5nm Chip-

Apple today will show more than the iPhone 12, a technological revolution

Today the company will make a fuss with the first devices that have a new type of chip

With the new processor, users of these devices can edit 4K video, modify high-resolution photos, and play graphically intensive games more easily than previously possible using fewer battery.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

The new 5-nanometer architecture means that the size of the transistors has been reduced and the processor board occupies more of them than was previously possible. These transistors are now only 25 atoms wide and billions of them can be placed on a single plate. Simply put, more processing power. Four years ago the industry doubted that such an advancement would be possible.

Such advancements would not have been possible before an unknown Dutch company called ASML. This company has developed a way to construct transistors on the silicon plate through a process called Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV). Its machinery costs $123 million a share. It is currently the only company that manufactures these devices and they are more cost-effective than alternative options due to the low level of defects.

Only two chipmakers have started using this technology commercially:

Both firms have their share in ASML alongside Intel which will start using the technology in 2021.

What exactly does 5-nanometer mean?

One nanometer is one of 1 billion Metter. This is the size that human hair grows every second. Transistors are used to measure the width of a component. But a decade ago the way chips are designed changed and nanometers are no longer used as a geometric effect. Today 5 nanometers is more of a marketing term and two companies with the same design can produce transistors with different performance.

To help you understand the size of transistors, at every 1 mm2 of the Apple chip are put 17,1 million transistors. The new structure with a stack of four nanosheets allows about 30 transistors to be placed onto the chip with the size of a fingernail bringing significant gains in efficiency and power.

In comparison to the 10 nm chip, the new 5 nm structure brings 40% performance improvements at fixed power, or 75% power saving at matched performance. This leads to more powerful and more efficient smaller devices.

N5 is the first TSMC process designed around extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV). Because it uses a 13.5-nanometer light instead of 193-nanometers, EUV can define chip features in one step—compared with three or more steps using 193-nanometer light.

Smarter smartphones

Everything that was said above matters because switching to 5-nanometer means that devices are more intelligent. As chips advance, more tasks are capable of performing and many of them can now be done locally instead of being sent to remote servers. We have already seen smartphones capable of transcribing voices or recognizing people in pictures without the need for an internet connection. With new processors, more complex tasks are possible with artificial intelligence which means that smartphones can better recognize the world around them.

Switching to smaller transistors, processors use less power and have higher performance. For this reason, TSMC 5-nanometer chips should be 15% faster than 7-nanometer ones or 30% more power-efficient.  Apple claims that the A14 can perform machine learning tasks 10 times faster than the A13. But consumers are more concerned about real-life benefits than theoretical digits.

iPhone 12 Last Minute Rumors: Better Zoom and Longer Battery Life

Apple will unveil new iPhone models today. The company will hold an event at 19:00 with our local time and you can watch the live broadcast live on this YouTube link. With the Apple event just a few hours away, you would think that we already know everything about the new iPhone 12. And, for the most part, we know, and here are two summaries of what we expect for Apple to announce tomorrow.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

According to speculation, Apple will introduce four versions of the iPhone 12, including a 5.4-inch “mini” model, an iPhone 12, 12 Pro, and 12 Pro Max. Some of the models will be equipped with 5G technology although the latter is still in experimental stages in many parts of the world.

However, the leaker Max Winebauch has disseminated some very detailed, last-minute information about the new iPhones, some of which we have not heard before.

According to Winebauch, the smallest of the iPhone, the 5.4-inch “iPhone 12 Mini” – will have a TrueDepth camera system adjusted at the front, resulting in a level that is smaller horizontally but slightly larger vertically.

Zoom is getting another improvement; Weinbauch claims that the Pro models will have 3x optical zoom and 25x to 30x digital zoom, while the non-Pro iPhone 12 models will get better zoom through software upgrades.

The new iPhones are getting bigger batteries than the previous models. This should result in one-hour battery life for Pro models. However, the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 Mini will perform worse than the iPhone 11 when it comes to battery life, due to its smaller size.

Other news from Weinbauch includes support for 4K video at 120 or 240 fps, faster Face ID operation, night mode being added to the telephoto camera, better low light performance for the ultrawide camera, and a possible macro camera mode, as well as a portrait video.

The big Apple event starts at 19:00, on Tocday, October 13th.

How to follow the iPhone 12 live presentation?

Apple will introduce new iPhone models today. The company will hold an event at 19:00 with our local time and you can watch the live broadcast live on this YouTube, or through the video below.

Apple will also introduce a wireless charging device. The iPhone giant has also long been reported to be working on a pair of headphones that will join the AirPods line. As we said above Apple will broadcast the activity live on YouTube and it is the easiest way to watch it.

Meet the OnePlus 8T design before its debut

OnePlus will officially unveil the 8T on October 14th

In a video released yesterday, OnePlus has revealed the full design of the OnePlus 8T ahead of its official debut. The design is very different from its OnePlus 8 predecessor. So the company has decided to move away from the central camera module for a module located in the upper left corner.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

It’s a surprise because OnePlus has been using the central camera design for several years. At first glance, the OnePlus 8T is very similar to the affordable OnePlus Nord model. The green color inherited from the flagship models of the year will remain. OnePlus will officially introduce the 8T on October 14th.

The phone is confirmed with a 65W fast charger, a new camera sensor, 120Hz flat screen.

Google Pixel 5

Google Pixel 5 and 4a 5G officially revealed

The Pixel 5 costs $699 while the Pixel 4a 5G starts at $499. The standard non-5G Pixel 4a costs $399

Finally confirming everything, Google has decided to look the market from another angle and strives to offer flagship quality at more affordable prices. With the latest line of Pixel phones unveiled on Wednesday, Google decided to pull out of the big smartphone battle by focusing more on the consumer and budget models than the Premium segment dominated by Apple and Samsung with smartphones costing over $1,000.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

The Pixel 5 costs $699 and the Pixel 4a 5G starts at $499. The standard non-5G Pixel 4a costs $399. These low normal prices have their cost because both phones have less powerful processors and not as a high-quality screen as the high ranking Samsung and Apple phones.

Both phones come with 5G technology. Pixel 5 is powered by a Snapdragon 765G processor which is a step below the Snapdragon 865 or 865 Plus but accompanied by Qualcomm’s X52 5G modem. It’s a big twist on Google’s usual Pixel strategy. Pixel 5 differs from 4a in IPX8 resistance, wireless charging of devices, more RAM, higher quality Gorilla Glass 6.

The 6-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 2,340 x 1,080 pixels (432 ppi) of Pixel 5 will be full HD+ and will have a modest refresh rate of 90Hz. RAM up to 8GB, 128 GB of storage, 4080mAh battery with 18W USB-C fast charging, and against what was thought will support both sub-6Ghz but also mmWave 5G. As expected, the fingerprint sensor will be on the back of the device.

Like the Pixel 5, the Pixel 4a has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor. The Pxiel 4a 5G battery has been upgraded compared to 4a and comes with an output of 3,885 mAh.

A wide-angle camera

The strong point will always remain the camera which despite having only two sensors one 12MP with 77 degrees of field of view and another 16MP with 107 degrees its software will lift the most weight. Thus, new AI-powered options are Portrait Light, Cinematic Pan, and three new video stabilization modes. The front camera has an 8-megapixel sensor and offers portrait mode but also Night Mode.

The camera should be able to record full HD video at 240 fps and 4K video at 60 fps. With improved timing and slow motion as well as image stabilization, better video quality should be achieved.

With the new models Google will address a major user concern, battery life. The new Extreme Battery Saver mode will increase battery life by up to 48 hours leaving only vital applications running. This mode will also be offered for older Pixel models.

A cheap price

The Pixel 4a 5G will cost $499, the Pixel 5 will be cheaper than its predecessor and should only cost $699. The Pixel 4a 5G should be available from October 15 in Japan and from November in 8 other countries. The Pixel 5 will also launch on October 15, at least in the US.

All three smartphones are similar in design, but the main difference and what it really should be is in their performance. The 10T and 10T Pro have a 6.67-inch full HD+ display with 1080 x 2400 pixels and HDR10+ and a crazy 144Hz refresh rate. Such a frequency is available from a high-end gaming monitor and gaming smartphone. While the Lite version comes with a more “modest” scale of 120Hz.

It is somewhat unusual that Xiaomi relies on an LCD screen for all its Mi-10T devices and leaves out an AMOLED screen. For this reason, the fingerprint sensor is not integrated into the screen.

The first two devices use a powerful Snapdragon 865 SoC 5G processor and 8GB RAM. Lite has the latest Snapdragon 750G SoC mid-range processor and only 6GB of RAM. The battery of all three is the same, 5000mAh where Lite has a very small difference. Standard charging for all 33W. Wireless charging should also work, but Xiaomi does not provide information about charging power. In the box is also included a 33W USB-C charger.

The camera department is what makes the difference.

The Mi 10T Lite has a set of 4 cameras 64MP main, 8MP ultra-wide, 2MP macro, and 2MP depth sensor. The Mi 10T has only three, 64MP main camera, 13MP ultra-wide, and a 5MP macro.

The magic is certainly saved for the superior Mi 10T Pro with a 108MP main sensor with optical image stabilization, another 13MP ultra-wide, and a 5MP macro lens. With this camera configuration, 8K videos can be recorded at 30 fps. The selfie camera is hidden in a small camera hole in the screen and has 20 MP.

Depending on the selection, prices start at €279 for the Lite, €499 for the Mi 10T, and €599 for the cheaper version of the Mi 10T Pro.

Nokia 7.3 5G Render

Nokia 7.3 5G first renders leaked online

Seems pretty much like its predecessor, the Nokia 7.2

HMD Global should have launched Nokia 7.3 5G this week, but apparently, fans will still have to wait. In one last leak, however, we have the first images of what that camera will look like. Steve Hemmerstoffer has published the complete design of the smartphone.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

From the renders, it looks like it pretty much resembles its predecessor, the Nokia 7.2.

This generation will have a circular camera bundle with the ZEISS logo in the center. To the left of the module is the flash and below it the fingerprint sensor. While camera details have not yet been released, early reports speak for the 48MP main and some other 12MP wide-angle lenses. The front has a hole on the top left for the selfie camera which is expected to be 24MP.

Nokia 7.3 will have USB-C and a headphone jack. The back of the smartphone is expected to be plastic and not glass, this to keep costs low. The 6.5-inch screen is Full-HD+, Snapdragon 690 processor, and 4000mAh battery.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition

Samsung brings what we asked. This is the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition

The S20 Fan Edition is a bridge between the mid-range and the flagship segment

OnePlus has established itself as one of the leading players in the budget smartphone market. Samsung had made the phones quite expensive and lowering their price was not a proper option. So they decided another strategy and this is probably the clearest indication that Samsung is still in competition with the OnePlus.

The 6.5-inch AMOLED display has a refresh rate of 120Hz but the resolution is limited to Full HD. It also comes with 128GB of internal memory but you can expand it via SD cards up to 1TB. It has the same Snapdragon 865 chip as the S20 flagships, but only 6GB of RAM instead of 12GB. The 4,500 mAh Fast Charge 2.0 battery and IP68 dust and water protection should offer pretty good performance.

Even the rear camera is what you get from a $1,000 Samsung smartphone. The Fan Edition (FE) has a standard 12-megapixel camera with f/1.8 aperture, dual-pixel autofocus, optical image stabilization. The main sensor is accompanied by a super wide-angle 12-megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture, an 8-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and 30x hybrid as well as a 32-megapixel selfie camera. It certainly does not offer the luxury of the original S20, but the hardware looks quite good, moreover, AI and dedicated software should bring competition results.

The display panel is protected by Gorilla Glass 5 but the back of the Galaxy S20 FE is made of a tough plastic material that has a matte finish to prevent fingerprints and stains. And to offer more style among S20 FE fans it comes in Cloud Red, Cloud Orange, Cloud Lavender, Cloud Mint, Cloud Navy, and Cloud White.

The phone will include both 5G variants, sub-6Ghz, and mmWave 28Ghz priced at $700 and $750 respectively and also has an exclusive Verizon variant that works on the carrier’s 5G Ultra Wideband network.. The Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition will be available from October 2 at Samsung.com and at retail stores. Orders can be registered now.

Samsung Fan Edition phones are designed to eliminate the gap between the flagship’s Galaxy S and Note and the mid-range Galaxy A. Samsung has recently suffered with sales and now the Galaxy A51 has managed to enter the list of 10 best-selling smartphones in the first half of 2020. On the other hand, the Apple iPhone 11 has sold like crazy and is the smartphone of the year.

The budget foldable phone Royole FlexPai 2 5G costs $1,470

CEO Bill Liu announced that the FlexPai 2 is on sale through the Royole website

At the end of March, we were introduced to an early look at the second generation of foldable-screen phone, the Royole FlexPai 2 5G. This phone comes with a flexible OLED panel and a format similar to Huawei Mate X.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

The new panel should have a better folding angle, better screen performance, and most importantly wrinkle reduction during folding. FlexPai 2 should have debuted in the first quarter of 2020 but today the wait is over.

In a virtually broadcast event, CEO Bill Liu announced that the FlexPai 2 is on sale through the Royole website. The base model has 8GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS3.0 storage priced at $1,470 while the 12GB/512GB variant costs $1,710. Both are already available for sale.

The fodable screen is a step forward for Royole. The panel of Flexpai 2 folds outwards thus becoming a dual-screen smartphone when the hinge is at 180 degrees. This technology is called Cicada Wing 3S by the company and it is “mirror-like smooth”, no creases whatsoever after over 1,8 million folds.

Compared to the competition Royole has set quite aggressive prices. The Huawei Mate X costs $2,510 while Samsung is asking $1,999 for the Galaxy Z Fold 2.

The FlexPai 2 has a Snapdragon 865 processor, 7.8-inch unfolded panel 1920 × 1440 pixels with 4:3 ratio, four rear cameras and stereo speakers.

Folded the main screen is a 16:9 5.5-inches while the one after the secondary is 5.4-inches with a 16:10 ratio. The main sensor of the rear cameras is 64-megapixel. The phone comes with Android 10 with its dedicated WaterOS 2.0 interface and a 4,450 mAh battery with QC 4.0 fast-charging capabilities at 18 W.

The phone supports 5G connectivity with all the popular bands, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, and has a USB-C 3.1 port. It will be sold through JD.com’s own website and will be available starting from September 25 in three color variants Silver, Black or Gold.
