Motorola Razr

Motorola re-launches the Razr model, which now supports 5G but again costs a lot

Now will cost 1,399, which is only $100 less than its predecessor

Earlier this year, Motorola launched the Razr model, modernizing the famous Android phone brand which was offered with a foldable screen priced at $1,500. Now, Motorola is trying to re-launch the updated second-generation Razr model phone, to which it has also added support for 5G network, better cameras, and a more useful software.

Apparently foldable smartphones are interesting to the consumer and are building their market as innovative products like Motorola’s Razr. Motorola says that for this product has listened to the opinions of users and has reflected the changes in the Razer 2.

The shape in general continues to remain faithful to the classic of a few decades ago. The foldable screen this time is 6.2-inch OLED and another secondary “Quick View” screen 2.7-inch OLED on the outside which allows users to view key notifications and other features. The new Snapdragon 765G processor adds 5G which unfortunately is only sub-6 and mmWave faster. RAM has been increased to 8GB from 6gb to the previews model, the internal memory has been doubled to 256GB and the battery is larger at 2,800 mAh.

The most noticeable changes are the position of the fingerprint sensor on the back and also the cameras. The first Razr cameras were 5MP selfie and 16MP main one and the results left much to be desired. This time the internal camera will be a 20MP sensor and the rear 48MP with a new laser for autofocus ToF and optical stabilization.

Lastly, Motorola has done well to follow Samsung‘s example by adapting many aspects of its software with the ability to bend at the screen. Google Maps, YouTube, and some games are part of these adaptations.

But the bad news is that the Razr comes high again, now goes to $1,399, which is only $100 less than its predecessor.

Meet Razr, the Motorola’s folding phone with the design of 90s

The Lenovo-owned brand, Motorola unveiled a new version of the Razr phone. It has a touch screen on the inside, no keyboard but folds in half into a shell design of the 90’s and early 2000’s.

The phone will go on sale in the US in January for $1,499 while orders start on December 26th. Razr is the latest example of the trend of phones with folding screens. Comes after Galaxy Fold, Huawei Mate X and Xiaomi Mi Flex.

The goal is to create a phone that even acts as a tablet when you open it but Motorola has chosen a different approach. It looks like a normal phone when opened and small enough to fit in a pocket when folded.

Locked Razr has a 2.7-inch display which shows basic things like text messages, emails, incoming calls, mobile payments, music controls and camera. Can even call Google with the command “Ok Google” when it’s closed. The unlocked phone has a 6.2-inch screen. Motorola says the screen is protected using a shaft with no space in between.

But for $1,500 you should expect more power. Motorola has integrated a Snapdragon 710 chip instead of the flagship model Snapdragon 855. It has 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, on a device that is 205gr in weight.

The foldable Moto RAZR features a 6.2-inch POLED display, foldable with 2142 x 876 pixels HD resolution and 21: 9 Cinemavision display ratio. The 2.7-inch external GOLED display with a resolution of 600 x 800 pixels and a 4:3 aspect ratio will serve as a notification screen.

To power everything is a 2,510mAh battery  with 15W TurboPower and Android 9 Pie. There are two cameras in the phone: a main, 16MP and a 5MP selfie.

Thanks to confirmations from company executives it is no longer a question of whether or not it exists, but rather, the question now is when the company will officially unveil its access to folding phones, with the recreation of a classic device.

Several reports are emerging in which Motorola is sending invitations to a November 13 event in Los Angeles, hinting at a “long-awaited discovery of a recreated icon”.

The big question now is, can Motorola/Lenovo deliver on a folded phone?

Huawei has delayed its Mate X, and the Galaxy Fold is now starting to hit the market, not without its hurdles.

Early concepts based on leaks and rumors suggest that the phone will look like this.
