BMW X7: Is Bigger But Is It Better?

BMW X7: Is Bigger But Is It Better?

50% of the demand for the BMW X7 comes from North America. Americans like big cars, and this is clearly seen by the use of Toyota Tacoma.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

The BMW X7 is part of the BMW luxury car line, along with the i8, Serie 7 and 8, although the latter can be considered grand tourer and sports car respectively. 2 meters wide and 5.1 meters long, the X7 is the largest and the longest SUV available today.

Some may argue that it gives the X7 road presence and reliability for passenger safety, however in parking spaces and standard roads, the car is so big that you may feel limited and frightened.

The seven seat version is not the only option. For multi-family families, the seven-seat version is a fantastic version. But fortunately there is another version for those who do not want such a big car.

Also welcome are the luxurious details that have basic packages, such as headlamp technology, or rear seatbacks that are folded with the commands on the button on both sides of the vehicle.

Radar tracking, along with lane holder, leads the X7 to a level close to autonomy but not complete. With all the drivers supports, you have enough time to relax, relax and contemplate. As you can imagine yourself, the BMW X7 has leather seats, comfortable and digital.

Also, the screen that is reflected on the driver of the vehicle is of high quality. In short, this BMW system is best so far. Everything has been done to create a relaxed and enjoyable environment for passengers, but in particular for the driver.

On the road, the BMW X7 is refined. It can be a big car to park, but the comfort and ease that is on the road is impressive. No noise from outside is heard inside the booth.

Currently available are xDrive30d and M50d, at $119,900 and $169,900 respectively. An M50i variant will arrive in October 2019. It’s not a surprise that the X7 is a heavy car, it is full of 2.4 tons. That’s why it will take a lot of horsepower and revolving power to drive this beast.

In the end we can say that the X7 is a refined, comfortable and impressive car for a SUV of this segment. But we can say that there is a weakness, the BMW X5 M50d. About $57,000 cheaper than the X7 equivalent, X5 is easier to park, equipped with the same technology, and represents a serious rival.

The two M50i SUVs have the same updated version of the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 petrol engine, which produces 523 horsepower and 750 Nm of rotating power, 67 horsepower and 100 Nm more than the xDrive50i versions of both models.

The company has made public little photos of the car, showing the part and interior details.

The updated engine features an aluminum block that provides rigidity. Power is boosted through a eight-speed transmission equipped with a rotating power converter.

The two SUVs have a 4 × 4 steering system with a M Sport electronic ballast managed by the stability control system. This system sends 100% steering to the rear wheels under certain driving conditions.

Performance numbers have not yet been revealed, but BMW declares that the X5 and X7 reach the speed of 100 km/h for 4.1 seconds and 4.5 seconds, respectively, and the maximum speed for both models is 250 km/h. The X5 xDrive50i and X7 xDrive50i have an acceleration of 4.7 seconds and 5.4 seconds respectively.

The X5 M50i has Adaptive M Amortization with Adaptive Damping, while the X7 M50i has a variable-height air damper with variable control. This depreciation is optional at X5.

X5 M50i and X7 M50i are differentiated from standard X5 and X7 models with a more structured bumper with larger cooling channels, new spheres under the door, and new puddles.

Inside, the illuminated logo of the M50i is displayed inside the door, the wheel is M-Sport, as well as sports seats.

The models will arrive in 2020.

BMW X7 Vs. Mercedes GLS

BMW X7 Vs. Mercedes GLS

We have entered a new era of automotive engineering. In 2000, vehicle manufacturers focused on experimenting to bring variations to different segments. While now they focus on expanding the offer to cover the needs of buyers in all vehicle sizes.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

BMW X7 exists. And this is a proof of the fact that the German car manufacturer does not leave a stone unturned to add variety on the segment.

We can even say that before the launch of the X7, the Mercedes GLS and Range Rover were the only full-size cars that could be purchased in this segment.

The Audi Q7, on the other hand, is rated somewhere between the average size and the full size. It is therefore seen as a rival of GLE and X5.

But let’s just get back to the two German beast cars.

Outside look

The X7 is very similar to the BMW Concept X7 iPerformance. There are glossy headlights, large grille and design language in general. At least for the outside appearance.

Other distinctive features include the large 20-22 inch wheels, flat roof design, and long rear doors.

The size of the BMW X7 Vs. Mercedes GLS

As to size, the X7 has dimensions 516.3 cm long, 199.9 cm wide, and 180.5 cm high. There is a 310.3 cm chassis.

Mercedes GLS is 513 cm long, 193.4 cm wide, and 185 cm high. The chassis is 307.5 cm long.

These figures mean that X7 is longer, wider and has a larger chassis than GLS, although this latest is higher.

However, when Mercedes discovers the new GLS it is expected that these measurements will be more approximate, just like many other factors that would make you choose the X7 instead of the GLS if you had to do it now.

For beginners, BMW may look much more modern, especially if you look at the rear design.

If you look at an angle as shown in the picture above, each model has its strong sides, which make it the edge in design.

The Interior

Few people may prefer the older GLS cabin (as the new one has not yet been detected), instead of the BMW X7.

The Mercedes cab is based on a 2012 design. While the interior of the X7 is the most modern you can find in a BMW.

This means that there is a big difference in on-board technology, where the X7 has a display on the glass, two 12.3-inch screens, ambient lighting, wireless charging, heating and cooling cup holders, voice recognition, gesture control as well as a host of driver auxiliary systems.

.

Some of these systems are the driver’s assistant with blind spot recognition, lane warning, warning for front and back flaps, pedestrian warning. These are just the systems that come standard with the base price.

Even the Bower & Wilkins sound system is better with 1,500 watts and 20 speakers, compared to 1,400 watts with 14 speakers in Bang & Olufsen’s Bang & Olufsen system.

GLS, on the other hand, has a driving adaptation control. And this is an advantage if we consider advanced driver assistance.

The Price

Finally we can talk about costs. Now that we know that the X7 will cost $73,900, we can see these two models from the perspective of the price, which would be in favor of the old GLS after Mercedes has set a $70,150 price for it.

As much as luxury products go, there is no big difference between these two models. And technically, be confident that BMW will compensate for the $3.750 price difference.

2019 BMW X7

Analysis: The BMW X7 of 2019

The original X5 debuted in 1999, a few years after Mercedes-Benz introduced the ML-Class SUV for the mass market.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

20 years later, the X5 is in the fourth generation, and the entire BMW line is full of SUVs, ranging from X1 to X6.

As such, the new X7 of 2019 is the first competitor of full-size models, such as the Range Rover and the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class.

The X7 is currently the biggest model the company produces, three-row SUVs with seats.

Think of it as SUV equivalent to the flagship BMW Sedan 7 Series (though cheaper). Now it comes to you as a new flagship on SUV days and spends a bit of fuel.

It’s bigger than almost any other SUV in the market, where bigger than this is the Cadillac Escalade or Lincoln Navigator.

At the launch, two gasoline engines – one with six cylinders in one xDrive40i and another V8 xDrive50i – were introduced. However, a hybrid plug-in version will debut within the next year.

X7 characterizes every bit of the history of comfort and perfection of Serie 7.

Air suspension provides a comfortable ride on rugged asphalt roads, adjusting and self-leveling as needed.

As with other BMWs, X7 wears flat tires. The engineers have done a perfect job with the bumpers to improve the quality of the 22-inch wheel drive on the xDrive50i and the Pirelli P-Zero tires.

The interior of the car

No noise is heard so that the driver can talk to the third-row passenger without having to raise the voicemail. The only noise you can hear inside is the slight turbidity of the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with 462 horsepower.

The xDrive40i version with 340 horsepower, six-cylinder turbo power in one line offers a softer, sweeter marmite noise.

It is not just the journey or the quieter interior. BMW also offers you seats that can be adjusted in 20 modes of heating, cooling and massage. But we can say that you have to try to understand which command adjusts the settings we mentioned. Even third-row passengers have heated seats.

The driver can push the second row of seats forward to leave more space to the third row, with only one button on the door panel.

The X7 comes with six or seven passenger configurations. Entrance to the rear seats is easy. The space in the three rows is wide.

An average adult can stay comfortably in the three rows. However, like all three-row SUVs with limited space on the back, we would not recommend it for long persons or for long journeys.

Five-Zone Climate Control means that the three rows can control air conditioning, although we are skeptical of how much separation can make separate areas.

The interior space of the BMW X7

With the third row at the end, the space in the luggage is limited. Only one suitcase can fit in it when placed straight. However, there is a box of considerable floor space.

But we can say that the luggage space is enough to hold some bags and plenty of groceries.

The third row can only be extended by one button, and this increases the luggage space to 1.37m3. If you extend the second row, the space increases to 2.56 m3.

The interior is a complete BMW standard, although this can be taken as a compliment. The cabins are wonderful. With soft, beautiful leather, wood and metal covering almost any surface.

The controls are well established. There are some difficult buttons that only one person who uses the car often can easily use it.

What technology does a BMW X7 use?

The car is a step ahead of Range Rover and Mercede-Benz GLS. Although the latter is expected to undergo some updates to improve some things. For now, the X7 is the best car of its class.

Like any German luxury vehicle, the BMW X7 of 2019 is packed with technology. The latest generation of the BMW iDrive information system is clean, fast and intuitive, though gesture controls are a novelty we are not yet accustomed to. While voice commands remain behind Mercedes.

The lack of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay that only works with subscription is a problem.

The screen that is mirrored on the glass is easy to read even without polarized glasses. There is a wireless charging hut at the top where the glass holders are. Each line is equipped with USB ports.

The second line has an HDMI jack and two headphone ports, as well as an integrated Blu-ray player.

The BMW X7 has color schemes that can be customized as desired, as well as the panoramic view on the glass roof.

The X7 hides its parts quite well, though it is not so small. It does not look bigger than the X5 even though it’s 22.8 cm longer.

In the driving position of the machine with automatic adjustment, on the downhill road, a light will light up at the top. While the steering wheel will vibrate. Even on flat roads the system feels too aggressive, pulling constantly to keep the car in the center.

What are the engine versions with which comes the BMW X7?

Prices for the six-cylinder X7 xDrive40i start at $74,895. This price is slightly more than the old GLS but about $15,000 less than the basic Range Rover.

To switch to the V8 engine powered by xDrive50i, which costs $93,595, about $10,000 less than the most powerful V8 Range Rover.

While a BMW 740i xDrive costs $86,650 and the 750i xDrive costs $99,950.

The GLS, the Range Rover and the 7 Series all have more powerful engines than the X7, but you have to pay more for this extra power.

The X7 also comes with the optional M Sport Bundle, although it is more visual. The package adds the larger air intakes to the front, the M wheels, the shiny black trim, and the M Sport wheels.

In Europe, the X7 M50d diesel version will be available.

The BMW X7 of 2019 is sure to be a hit, and deserves to be such. It is the most modern vehicle of its class. But again it is comfortable, has enough space, and allows you to enjoy the journey with it.
