Xiaomi patents the 4-camera foldable phone

Xiaomi patents the 4-camera foldable phone

Since last year, Xiaomi has been developing its own foldable phone, but we don’t know yet when it will be available. Two other patents have recently been filed for such phones, one with dual hinges and three screen sections, and the other with a folding design, such as the Motorola Razr, reports GSMArena.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

A few days ago, a patent was filed on the Chinese Intellectual Property Agency’s website, which features a folding phone with three screen sections and four cameras. Of course, even though the patent has been filed, that does not mean we will necessarily see it in the form of any real product.

The Dealntech site has sketched this phone in the folded position it resembles very much on the Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha with the screen unfolding over the edge and practically covering almost the entire back surface. The cameras on the Mi Mix Alpha are also slightly moved sideways to enable the rear end to be used as a screen.

The part in the patent sketches marked with a curved line is actually the phone hinge mechanism. As with the Huawei Mate X and Galaxy Fold, the screen is expected to be plastic protected. The patent shows little detail about the phone’s hardware itself, so no openings, ports and buttons are visible except for the four circles that symbolize the cameras.

Folding phones are certainly the next big thing in the mobile device industry and it is fun to follow the different interpretations that popular manufacturers have. Xiaomi’s foldable phone is expected in the second quarter of next year.

Redmi K30 to have a 120Hz display

Redmi K30 to have an 120Hz display

In recent weeks, Xiaomi has provided some details about the upcoming Redmi K30 phone, such as 5G support and punch-hole opening for the two front cameras. Now, thanks to XDA-Developer research, some new details have been found.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

Looking at the MIUI 11 interface, the XDA member nicknamed kacskrz has found references to the device codenamed “phoenix“. The device is suspected to be the Redmi K30, as the MIUI 11 photo shows the phone with a double punch-hole cutout and fingerprint reader on the side.

DA member nicknamed kacskrz has found references to the device codenamed “phoenix”. The device is suspected to be the Redmi K30, as the MIUI 11 photo shows the phone with a double punc-hole cutout and fingerprint reader sideways.

“Phoenix” was also found that it will support 120Hz screen refresh. This isn’t the first time we’re hearing about Xiaomi‘s plans to implement 120Hz screens, but it looks like the Redmi K30 might be the company’s first such phone.

The higher refresh rate enables smoother display and menu scrolling as well as page scrolling, but also a better 120Hz gaming experience. Some Google and OnePlus models support 90Hz, while Asus ROG Phone 2, Sharp Aquos and Razer Phone models support 120Hz refresh.

The first 120Hz model was the Razer Phone, which came with the IPS display, while this year’s Asus ROG Phone 2 was the first OLED display. The fingerprint reader on the side and not inside the screen indicates that Xiaomi will most likely be designated for IPS screen, although it is likely OLED, and that the company has decided to save elsewhere.

The last thing to notice in the code is that “phoenix” has the Sony IMX686 camera sensor. It is believed to be the 60MP or 64MP sensor, which would produce 15MP or 16MP Quad Beyer photos instead of the 12MP current 48MP cameras.

For the official launch of the Redmi K30 we will have to wait until next month, or early 2020, but it sure looks like an interesting phone.

Xiaomi’s 108-megapixel smartphone comes to Europe as Mi Note 10

Yesterday, Xiaomi unveiled Mi CC9 Pro, the first 108-megapixel camera phone the company has developed in collaboration with Samsung.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

The bad news is that the Mi CC9 Pro will not be sold outside of China. The good news is that Xiaomi has introduced an almost identical model called the Mi Note 10 which will be sold internationally.

Mi Note 10 was introduced in Spain and will be sold in Britain and other European countries. From the published information, there is no difference in hardware between the two phones except the Mi Note 10 will have Google applications.

Xiaomi usually puts different names on the same phones to distinguish between Chinese and international models. The concrete case is the K20 / K20 Pro model in China that is sold globally as the Mi 9T and Mi 9T Pro.

Here are the full specifications of MI Note 10:

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G processor
  • 6GB of RAM and 128GB of memory
  • 5 rear cameras: 108-megapixel f/1.69 wide, 12-megapixel f/2 2x telephoto, 5-megapixel f/2 5x telephoto, 20-megapixel f/2.2 super wide, and 2-megapixel macro.
  • 32-megapixel selfie camera
  • 6.47-inch OLED display with built-in fingerprint scanner
  • 5,260 mAh battery with
  • 30W fast charging
  • USB-C and 3.5mm headphone port

Mi Note 10 won’t be as fast as the Snapdragon 855 included in the Redmi K20 but the rest of the phone is worth considering. The CC9 Pro starts at $400 in China while the Mi Note 10 will cost $549.

The figures speak of very powerful specifications, but it is not yet known how these cameras can interact with the system known as the “Penta” to deliver the desired images at a time when iPhone and Samsung smartphones have 12-pixel central cameras.

High resolution is offered by the 6.47-inch AMOLED display with fingerprint scanners underneath, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G processor and ut 8GB of RAM and 256GB of data storage, as well as massive 5,260mAh battery with 30W of fast charging capacity. The device has even a 3.5mm headphone port.

More than 40 popular apps like TikTok and QQ Messenger are available for Mi Watch. The company has also integrated XiaoAI virtual assistant.

Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha is a nearly all-screen phone

Xiaomi Mi Mix line has always pushed the boundaries of smartphone screens and models. It was the original phone model that launched a borderless screen war to arrive on the Mi Mix 3 last year.

Now that are starting to show the first phones with the “waterfall” display, Xiaomi has decided to take it to a new level with the Mi Mix Alpha model. The Alpha screen revolves around the device where it meets the camera module at the back.

The effect is a phone made up almost of the screen. The volume buttons, also part of the screen, appear on the side and react based on the pressure applied. With this phone Xiaomi claims a 180 degree screen and body ratio.

Mi Mix Alpha comes with Samsung’s 108-megapixel sensor developed in collaboration with Xiaomi. As with other high resolution cameras, the pixels are combined in 2 × 2 squares to deliver higher sensitivity to light.

There is also no need for a selfie camera as it is enough to just turn the phone on and shoot with the rear camera. The phone itself has a Snapdragon 855+ processor, 5G connectivity, 12GB of RAM, 512GB of memory and 40W of 4,050 mAh battery.
