Valorant

Last month, a new tactical shooter was released on PC, developed by the popular Riot games. The new game is called Valorant and runs on Microsoft Windows only.

Riot games previously developed the popular hit, League of Legends, back in 2009. However, with their newest addition in 2020, Valorant is sure to be a success, or at least we hope with the legacy they’re building upon.

eSports teams for Riot’s new game were established as early as the beta, despite no leagues currently being available. Currently, the highest prize pool offered to teams was $50,000 – not bad for a newly released game.

Upon reading a variety of different sources, the average salary for a five-player team varies between $15,000 to $25,000 per month. However, some teams are paid considerably more due to additional streaming and an increased fan base.

So, what is Valorant, what’s the aim of the game, and is it worth downloading?

What is Valorant?

Valorant is a free-to-play tactical 5 vs. 5 first-person shooter. Many players had the benefit of playing the closed beta back in April, with the full game released on June 2nd, 2020.

The game is very similar to Counter-Strike, a game many eSports players are familiar with. However, the game is a combination of both Counter-strike and Overwatch, creating a tactical-hero first-person shooter many are sure to love.

Players have a choice of agents with unique abilities, these must be used effectively, able to make or break a round.

Whilst Valorant is free to download on any Windows device, there is, of course, in-game purchases. These include cosmetics for characters and weapons.

Whilst the game is still in its early days, new updates and patches are expected. The game runs smoothly and is a great play, especially for those who enjoy close counters combat mixed in with hero abilities to spice up the action.
