It may not have been more than a week since the debut of the USB 3.2 with speeds up to 20Gbps, the technology that is expected to arrive this year on the first devices and Intel has begun to talk about USB4.
In a day-to-day business in Taipei, the company discovered that the new generation will use two channels to reach speeds of up to 40Gbps even on a certified 40Gbps USB-C cable.
Intel has finally begun to offer Thunderbolt 3 for manufacturers with an open license. USB4 will integrate this technology effectively by making Thunderbolt 3 “new”.
In short, USB4 will be the mother of all cable connectivity options and will also be available for powerful PCIe and DisplayPort devices.
This is great news for consumers because 40Gbps will be the standard for all future USB ports. To date only 463 devices have Thunderbolt 3 certification.
However USB4 is still in the early days and the USB Prompter group will not offer specification details until mid 2019. Also the USB4 compatibility with the upcoming versions of Thunderbolt is not known.
Intel said it will continue to promote Thunderbolt along with USB4.
