The botnet called Necurs has infected approximately 9 million computers worldwide and is one of the largest e-mail spam networks in the world generating 3.8 million e-mails in 2 months.

To attack Necus Microsoft analyzed a technique that the botnet uses to generate domains by means of an algorithm. He then predicted 6 million domains to be created in the next 25 months and reported them to various registries around the world in order to block and stop attacks.

Microsoft said the actions to crash Necurs have been planned for eight years since they began monitoring Necurs in 2012, a botnet that distributed GameOver Zeus malware.
