Qualcomm Snapdragon 765

Snapdragon 765 is Qualcomm first chip with integrated 5G modem

Snapdragon 865 is probably the biggest star of this year’s Qualcomm Summit, but it’s interesting that the premium chips isn’t the company’s first 5G integrated modem. This honor belongs to the Snapdragon 765/765G chip. It’s a successor to the Snapdragon 730 and is premium.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

Adreno 620 GPU, which has the Snapdragon 765, offers 20% better performance than the Adreno 618 on the Snapdragon 730, while with the 765G chip, this graphical performance improvement is 38 percent.

The CPU structure has changed, though the 765 still uses Cortex-A76 cores. It’s about the two Performance cores, but with a different working tactic. The Prime core goes up to 2.3GHz on the 765 model and up to 2.4GHz on the 765G model, while the second core reaches 2.2GHz on both models. The other six Cortex-A55 cores still reach 1.8GHz.

Snapdragon 765 and 765G support 2133MHz LPDDR4X RAM, while the 14-bit Dual Spectra 355 ISP supports a 192MP camera, or a 36MP sensor with no lag lock or two 22MP cameras. Video shooting is limited to 4K @30fps and has support for 1080p@120fps.

The integrated X52 modem provides theoretical maximum data download speeds of 1.2Gbps in 4G and 3.7Gbps in 5G, while uplink goes up to 210Mbps and 1.6Gbps. Support is also available for sub-6 GHz and mmWave 5G networks.

The Snapdragon 765 chipset is manufactured under the Samsung 7nm EUV process. The first devices using the Snapdragon 765/765G chipset will arrive in the first quarter of next year.

Snapdragon 865

Snapdragon 865, the 2020’s most powerful phone processor will not have 5G

Qualcomm officially introduced the processor for next year’s flagship phones, the Snapdragon 865, though the processor needs a separate modem just like its predecessor the Snapdragon 855 for 5G technology.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

Simply put, phones will be more expensive and power hungry than an integrated solution.

Along with the Snapdragon 865, Qualcomm introduced a downstream processor, the Snapdragon 765 which will have a built-in 5G modem. But it will be less powerful than the Snapdragon 865.

For months, Qualcomm has been promising chips and processors with integrated 5G modem. Even in September it said it would bring one of the 700 series with 5G integrated. But the surprise is that the company has chosen not to offer its most powerful processor with 5G. Snapdragon 865 will offer 5G technology just like the Snapdragon 855 with a separate 5G modem which will follow the Snapdragon X55.

In fact if a company wants the Snapdragon 865 processor, it will have to include the 5G modem that comes as a package. As a result, companies can’t produce phones with Snapdragon 865 and 4G processors.

With the Snapdragon 765 coming with 5G built-in, we expect to see some mid-range 5G phones. What Qualcomm would reveal with the Snapdragon 865 would set expectations for future flagships such as the Galaxy S11, OnePlus 8, Pixel 5, Galaxy Note 11, LG G9 and more.

Snapdragon 865 can be combined with the Snapdragon X55 Modem, which is a descendant of the X50 Modem and offers a new and more efficient processor. The X55 also offers theoretically higher download/upload speeds and supports SA/NSA networks. The X55 modem will support both mmWave and Sub-6 GHz 5G networks with improved traffic.

Another interesting announcement from Qualcomm was the new finger sensor in-display technology, dubbed 3D Sonic Max. The new fingerprint reader has a larger detection area, and also enables users to double-finger verify (for example, with two thumbs). The scanner’s accuracy has also improved significantly.

The display comes with factory-calibrated support for average DeltaE of ≤3 and covers 98% of the DCI-P3 color spectrum as well as 100% sRGB color gamut. The maximum brightness is 350 cd/m² but can be increased up to 400 cd/m² with HDR.

When it comes to connectors, it offers 1x DisplayPort 1.4 port, 2x HDMI 2.0 ports and 3x USB 3.1 ports at the bottom, as well as a USB Type-C (DP alt mode) port, with 3.5mm audio jack port and one USB port 3.1 located on the left side. Also present are 2/ 2.5 speakers.
