2020 iPhone SE: What could we ask more from a low-cost iPhone

Starting at 400 euros for the 64GB base model, the iPhone SE takes the best of the iPhone 11, its processor and software, and puts them in the body of an iPhone 8

Apple‘s latest phone was a surprise product from the low-cost company that brings back the classic design and challenges any other mid-range smartphone. The design is almost completely unchanged from the iPhone 6, a design language dating back to 2016 with the traditional Home button but with the performance of a recent iPhone.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

It is positioned as a great force in the middle segment dominated by Android smartphones, but with the best performance and service that you can get from a phone, that only Apple can offer.

The design of the iPhone we know today took a different path in 2018. In 2020 the iPhone SE screen is smaller than today’s 4.7-inch standards, but its body and construction are timeless. In the end, this smartphone gives more than the screen suggests.

The dimensions and materials are the same as the iPhone 8. Glass front and rear, aluminum on its sides, fingerprint scanner Touch ID, Lightning connector but without 3.5mm headphone port and Face ID. It weighs 148 grams, making it much lighter than its rivals.

2020 iPhone SE Hardware specifications

  • Screen: 4.7-inch Retina HD (LCD) with 326 pixels per inch
  • Processor: Apple A13 Bionic
  • RAM: 3GB
  • Storage: 64, 128 or 256GB
  • Operating System: iOS 13
  • Camera: 12-megapixel rear with optical stabilization, 7-megapixel front
  • Connectivity: Esim, LTE, Wi-Fi 6, NFC, Bluetooth 5, Lightning, and GPS
  • Water resistance: IP67 (1 meter for 30 minutes)
  • Dimensions: 138.4 x 67.3 x 7.3mm
  • Weight: 148 grams

Equal performance with the iPhone 11

The 2020 iPhone SE has the iPhone 11 processor, the Apple A13 Bionic, and it works the same way. This means that even in the years to come, the iPhone SE remains competitive in this regard.

It costs only 400 euros and in this category does not recognize a rival in performance. But this performance costs us the battery. The battery lasts only 27 hours between two chargers, enough to get to bed in the evening, or an hour longer than the iPhone 8 and eight hours less than the iPhone 11. Charging the 2020 iPhone SE with the 5W adapter is a painful process. It reaches 55% after 60 minutes and takes 2 hours and 45 minutes to reach 100%.

The smartphone also has wireless charging technology but is not the best choice to charge the phone quickly. With iOS 13, the phone learns from user behavior how it charges the smartphone and sends the battery up to 80% and waits until you’re ready to pick up the smartphone, and then it charges the rest.

iOS 13

The iPhone SE comes from the box with iOS 13.4.1, the same iOS version installed on the expensive iPhone 11 models. The main difference between iOS iPhone SE and expensive phones is the control through gestures. The iPhone SE has a physical button that comes with Touch ID which performs all the gesture functions of the iPhone 11.

You’ll get Dark Mode, better privacy, and a clean menu of quick options. What sets an Apple product apart from others is definitely its support for nearly 5 years. The best of Apple’s rivals could be close to 4 years, but only for flagships and not low-cost models like the iPhone SE. Apple offers 5 years of support for each of its smartphones.

The Camera

The 2020 iPhone SE has a 12-megapixel rear camera which is identical to the iPhone 8’s camera but with the iPhone 11’s software power. The combination is really good.

In bright light it is difficult to tell the difference between a photo taken with the iPhone SE and the iPhone 11 Pro, a smartphone that costs twice as much. The images are well balanced with numerous details and accurate colors. In medium light, iPhone SE images start to lose quality. iPhone SE does not have Apple Night Mode but has Portrait Mode. Videos can be recorded at 60fps in 4K.

Overall the camera can only bitted from the Google Pixel 3A. The selfie camera is also high quality producing high detail and properly exposed photos in sufficient light.

Worth noting

  • The haptic feel is fantastic on the iPhone SE
  • There is no adapter for headphones in the box but there are Lightning EarPods headphones
  • Stereo speakers are very high quality
  • You can’t open the notifications panel by holding down the lockscreen as you would any other iPhone
  • The iPhone SE is extremely small for some wireless chargers

Price

iPhone SE is sold in three colors, black, white, and red with a price of 400 euros for the 64GB model, 450 euros for the 128GB model, and 549 euros for the 256GB model.

For comparison, the iPhone 11 costs 700 euros for the 64GB model, 749 euros for the 128GB model, and 849 euros for the 256GB model. Google Pixel 3a costs 300 euros, OnePlus 8 600 euros, and Galaxy S20 800 euros.

The Verdict

Usually when Apple is mentioned the last thing that comes to mind is value, but iPhone SE is the opposite. The 2017 iPhone 8 was revitalized in 2020 with a cost reduction and state-of-the-art processor. The combination is potent. You get a real iPhone several times at a lower cost.

The design is old but easily manageable for a smartphone of this size. Good screen, good battery, quality camera, wireless charging technology, water-resistant and high build quality. The icing on the cake is definitely the A13 processor and industry-leading software that is iOS with at least 5 years of support. In short, you can buy an iPhone SE and use it for the next 5 years with a level of quality and uncontested performance.

It’s not perfect because it lacks some features like Face ID, high battery life, and 3.5mm headphone jack. iPhone SE is the phone to buy for those people who just want a non too big and a long-lasting functional smartphone.

Pros

  • Low Price
  • 5 years new iOS versions
  • A13 Bionic
  • Wireless Charging
  • Good Camera
  • High performance
  • Easy to maintain
  • Water resistant
  • Touch ID
  • Great value

Cons

  • Battery life
  • No 3.5mm headphone port
  • No zoom camera
  • No Face ID
  • Old design
  • Slow charging

6 things Apple copied from Android on iOS 14

The Android-iOS debate has only gotten hot with the debut of iOS 14

Ever since smartphones became part of our lives, iPhone and Android loyalists have consistently argued over who copied whom. The debate has only heated up with the debut of iOS 14. From the App Library to widgets on the Home screen, Apple iOS 14 is more like Android than ever before.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

> Related: With iOS 14, Apple redesigns the iPhone screen, who will get it?

These are all features that Apple introduced with iOS 14 and that are inspired by Android:

#1. Widgets and Home screen adjustment

Widgets are nothing new for the iPhone. Even before that, you could add weather widgets or news. In iOS 14 you can add it directly to the Home screen. They can even be placed on different parts of the screen. This level of customization is standard on Android and is finally coming to the iPhone.

#2. The App Library is identical to the Android app panel

For years, when an iPhone user downloaded an app, it always lived on the Home screen. There was no way to hide apps just by deleting them or putting them in the directory. On Android you can choose which apps to display and which not. With iOS 14 Apple has brought this concept. Applications can be removed from the Home screen without deleting them.

#3. Home screen assistants

To activate Siri on iPhone, you need to launch the Siri app. But when iOS 14 arrives this fall, you can call Siri directly from the Home screen. Instead of opening an app, Siri can be opened by tapping directly on the screen, something Android has been offering for years with Google Assistant.

#4. Video with floating windows

Differently known as Picture-in-picture, screen-floating videos like those of YouTube have long been part of Android. With iOS if you’ve been watching a video and someone sends you a message and you want to read it, iMessage opens and the video closes. With iOS 14 a floating video will appear if they leave the app where you are watching it while opening another app.

#5. A new translation application

The first thing that comes to mind when you want to translate something is Google Translate. The service is the same in the application but also on the web. With iOS 14 Apple challenges Google Translate with its translation service 14 years since the debut of Google’s rival.

#6. App Clips are simple Instant Apps on Android

A new iOS 14 option is App Clips. The idea is to open an app without downloading it completely. For example to pay for a parking with a parking application that you do not have. This feature has long been available on Android.

Acer unveils their new Predator X25 360Hz Gaming monitor

Not that we need to, but who wouldn’t want to have one?

During the Next@Acer 2020 streaming gaming segment, Acer unveiled new Predator products, including a desktop and a laptop, an energy drink called the Predator Shot, a Bluetooth massage, and a boxing gaming chair. They also discovered the 360Hz Predator X25 monitor.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

The Acer Predator X25 is a 24.5-inch 1080p monitor with a 360Hz refresh rate, bringing gameplay pleasing to the player’s eyes. Normally no one needs a 360Hz monitor when 240Hz and 144Hz are more than enough, but isn’t it a bad thing to have one or not?

The monitor supports G-Sync and uses LightSense, which allows the monitor to change the brightness and color temperature depending on the surrounding light. Another feature is Adaptive Light, which changes colors around the monitor depending on the view displayed on it.

The Acer Predator X25 will be coming to North America and Europe for a price of $1,100. Meanwhile, players can also purchase Acer’s cheapest monitor, the Predator XB3.

iOS 14 New Features

Here’s what you can expect on iOS 14

iOS 14 will be released this fall and will be supported by the iPhone 6S and beyond

The giant scene of the super event WWDC did not turn out to be more immune than all the other scenes of 2020, so Apple also introduces iOS 14 via live streaming a few hours ago. Useful, radical changes, but some of them have been encountered before in the world of smartphones.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

Widgets are finally coming to the Home Screen. After 14 generations, Apple finally realizes their importance and even takes it one step further with “Smart Stack“, an option that automatically displays the right application depending on the time of day. The App Library organizes applications not only by grouping them as we see them now in all mobile OS’s. The iPhone finally allows you to hide apps from the home screen, but grouped not completely.

IOS users will finally get another multi-tasking taste through picture-in-picture videos which will allow you to continue to see the content by creating a smaller window while performing other tasks.

The app clip will allow you to use a specific feature of an app without having to install it. Using NFC tags and a new QR code specifically for Apple, everything can be used without creating new accounts, without installing anything, and even working with Apple Pay. You can also pay for the service of a parking lot or cafe with your iPhone without downloading anything without an account and without taking the wallet out of your pocket at all.

Sensing until a few years ago, Syria will undergo some really necessary changes this time. When called, it will no longer occupy the entire screen but a bar at the bottom and can also send voice messages not only dictated. Apple also says that compared to three years ago, Syria knows 20 times more facts, so let the strange questions flood.

Translate app will finally translate. Users can dictate or write their own texts and translate them into up to 11 languages, English, Chinese Mandarin, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Portuguese and Russian. Just like in Google Translate, with the help of a button, the application detects the language and translates in real-time what that foreigner told you, the tourist away from home.

Apple Maps also undergoes changes, in addition to the recommendation service the maps will be more friendly to cyclists, giving dedicated directions for cycling, including mountaineering, trails, stairs, and lanes. The first cities with this information will be New York City, San Francisco Bay Area, Shanghai, and Beijing.

And along with endless options for connecting to the car, charging stations but the most exotic is about switching the key to the smartphone, and the fact that a dedicated part of the smartphone will work to open and close the car even if the smartphone the battery has dropped. A separate section will reset up to 5 hours after shutdown.

Overall it looks like a good year to buy an iPhone. With changes not only in appearance but also an inconvenience, additional options, and AI implementation, it looks like this iOS will be more friendly than ever.

With the new U20 5G smartphone HTC reminds us that it still exists

The U20 5G may disappoint you with its Snapdragon 765G processor, especially at the $640 price tag

Surprisingly, this Tuesday was a busy day for HTC. After introducing the Vive XR Suite, the company kept its promise to introduce its first 5G phone, the HTC U20.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

Compared to other flagship smartphones, the U20 5G may disappoint you because of the Snapdragon 765G processor, especially with its $640 price tag. The only advantage of this processor is the integrated 5G modem that in theory will give better battery life. The same chip has been installed on the LG Velvet smartphone.

The U20 has an FHD+ LCD display instead of an AMOLED display and as a result a fingerprint scanner instead of an optical version. This was done to reduce the cost of the smartphone but at least HTC has implemented a 32-megapixel selfie “punch-hole” camera.

The rest of the hardware is standard with 8GB of RAM, 256GB of memory, 5,000mAh battery, and four rear cameras: 48-megapixel main, 8-megapixel ultra-wide, 2-megapixel macro and 2-megapixel bokeh.

Google launches the first version of Android 11, everything you need to know

According to Google Android 11 brings changes in three spaces: Contacts, Control and Privacy

After several consecutive delays, Google is ready to launch the first experimental version of Android 11 for the masses. Those who have a Pixel 2 or newer phone can install the new operating system by subscribing to the company’s beta program.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

Such versions of Android can be unstable and problematic. Only if you are one of the enthusiasts who want to test the latest news, otherwise we suggest you wait.

Android 11’s public beta was due to debut on June 3 with a virtual activity similar to Google I/O. The company pushed it in response to protests taking place in the country saying it was not the time to celebrate. According to Google Android 11 brings changes in three spaces: Contacts, Control, and Privacy. The first is about how you communicate with others with a section dedicated to the notification panel.

Conversation bubbles will make it easier to keep in touch while you are using or working on other applications. These bubbles are similar to what Facebook offers via Messenger. Applications can choose to use this new visual element and developers can easily add it to their applications.

Improvements have also come to the keyboard mainly in the suggestion belt and command control.

Android 11 will also bring improvements in controlling interconnected devices. By pressing the start button, the new operating system will open a control panel for connected devices such as speakers, headphones and TVs.

Last but not least is the control over privacy. With Android 11 come single-use permissions for apps.

Usually, when you install a new application during the configuration process some options appear which give them access to the camera, microphone, or location where users could access these unique components all the time (even in the background) and only when using the applications. The new operating system already offers permission for one use and the next time you open the application you will be asked for permission again.

So if you’ve downloaded an app and used it only once and don’t want to use it anymore, at least you don’t have to worry about how it’s accessing your location or your camera.

For developers, there are also new ones like machine learning or simpler “debugging”. There have also been rumors of some tools against robotic calls. Interface and navigation updates as well as new icon shapes are also expected.

With the advent of new experimental versions of Android 11 we will learn more about the operating system.

This is the PlayStation 5 – the Look and Specs

Sony has finally revealed what the PlayStation 5 looks like and its features

After nearly an hour of announcements about the PS5 game, Sony also unveiled the hardware design. According to foreign media, the PS5 console includes a black and white design to match the new controller that will be included in the box.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

With the radical change, the Sony PlayStation 5 comes in white color combined with black. The console comes in two versions, a standard model and a digital one, which will have a 3D camera.

The unveiling of Sony’s PS5 hardware design comes months after Microsoft unveiled the PC-shaped look of its next-generation console, the Xbox Series X, in December 2019. And Sony, like Microsoft, has slowly given more information to its next-generation PS5 in recent months.

The console will arrive in the holiday season and is powered by an eight-core AMD Zen 2 CPU  and an AMD RDNA 2 GPU. Sony announced the specifications of the PS5 in March, and AMD chips will offer 10.28 teraflops of power using variable frequencies in both CPU and GPU.

Sony is also using an SSD option to increase game load time. The SSD will provide 825GB of storage and 5.5 GB/s of performance.

In this regard, it is said that Sony is requesting that all games be installed on the internal SSD to use the read speed.

The PS5 will also support 8K graphics, 4K graphics with a 120Hz refresh rate, and 3D audio. The PS5 will also support an “overwhelming majority” of the more than 4,000 PlayStation 4 titles available today.
