Currents

Currents, Google+’s replacement, launches in July

Google Currents will finally be released on July 6, as a social network just for work relationships

On April 2, 2019, Google chose to get rid of the social media train by shutting down Google+. The reason certainly remains the low interest on the part of the community. Let’s face it, during the golden age of Facebook, having Google+ was the weirdest part of the group. But a G Suite version for enterprise communications continues to exist and apparently interest in this feature is active.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

Existing Google+ users will be transferred to “an updated look and feel” and will benefit from “additional options” including content moderation and administrative privileges.

The beta version of the few months has served as a place to “engage with employees. To have fruitful discussions. We stay current together.”

The interface and experience are mostly unchanged, the material on the main screen is organized according to the connection or chronology, while posts from superiors can take precedence. Texts, links, images, and other materials from Drive can be easily shared.

Yes, if the WhatsApp group is not enough, you will have a completely dedicated social network.

New HP EliteBook laptops refreshed with AMD Ryzen 4000 & 10th Gen Intel Comet Lake CPUs

HP EliteBook laptops are designed for practicality rather than advanced functionality

The company yesterday unveiled new updated models with some mandatory updates such as the 10th generation Intel Core processors and AMD Ryzen Pro 4000 series. Two laptops from this line are the ones that stand out the most: EliteBook x360 1030 G7 and 1040 G7. They fall into the category of convertible devices that can be used as laptops but also tablets promising 5G technology and battery life up to 29 hours according to the company.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

All models have a new redesigned keyboard which is quieter and a webcam which worries privacy the most. The convertible x360 models have a smaller design compared to their predecessors.

HP EliteBook X360 1040 G7

No other laptop better represents the innovative business value and potential of HP laptops than the EliteBook X360 1040 G7 and EliteBook x360 1030 G7 models. They are the most expensive and the most complete in terms of what they can do.

x360 1040 G7 has a 14-inch screen while x360 1030 G7 has a 13-inch screen. They are essentially the same except for the screen size. EliteBook x360 1040 G7 has an aluminum design with a thickness of 1.5cm and a weight of 1.2 kg. HP says that laptops have a smaller screen frame than any other business laptop.

The 14-inch screen can be equipped with a 1080p or 4K touch panel. The 1080p variant saves a lot of money and has a brightness of 400 nits otherwise 550 nits on the 4K panel.

Inside they hides an Intel Core 10-Gen processor up to Core i7-10810U with RAM up to 32GB and SSD M.2 up to 2TB. A fingerprint sensor is hidden on the keyboard along with a privacy button. Including 5G technology.

HP EliteBook 855 G7

The next laptop unveiled belongs to the mid-range and what makes it special is the AMD Ryzen Pro 4000 series processor. These processors were introduced by AMD just a few weeks ago.

Specifically, the EliteBook 855 G7 has an AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 4750U processor with 32GB of RAM and 1TB SSD. The 15.6-inch screen has a 1080p panel with a brightness of 250 or 500 nits. The EliteBook G7 is 1.77cm thick and weighs 1.67kg.

There are advanced options like the 1000 series with fingerprint scanner, privacy camera but only 4G LTE connectivity. The laptop goes on sale in August along with the 835 G7 and 845 G7 subvariants.

HP EliteBook 850 G7

The latest but not the least model belongs to the budget line of the 800 series. HP has applied changes to make these laptops benefit from the 1000 series technology but at a lower price.

The EliteBook 850 G6 is 2cm thick and weighs 1.76 kilograms. It has a screen that covers 87% of the panel and a thin frame at the bottom and top of it. With a size of 15.60 inches, the screen is a 1080p panel.

HP will equip the laptop with processors up to Core i7-10810U, up to 64GB RAM and 1TB PCIe m.2 SSD.

Finally the EliteBook 850 G7 has Nvidia GeForce MX250 graphics card. It goes on sale in June with a starting price of $1,399.

The device has a 6.5-inch 4K high dynamic range (HDR) display. 4K is the resolution while HDR is the technology that enhances the contrast between black and white making images look more realistic.

The Japanese giant hopes the latest device will help its mobile division especially in the new wave of new generation 5G mobile internet products. By 2025 5G technology will occupy 15% of worldwide internet connections. Sony last year saw sales drop by 16% compared to 2018.

Galaxy S20 Tactical Edition

Meet the Galaxy S20 Tactical Edition made for the US Army

S20 Tactical Edition is a reinforced version to serve the military

The advancement of technology goes hand in hand with the reinforcement of the materials it comes with, after all if we pay €1000 for a smartphone it should at least be resistant.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

Samsung is not satisfied with the strong composition of the Galaxy S20, so it has brought the S20 Tactical Edition, a reinforced version to serve the military. The device was commissioned by the United States Department of Defense, it can serve in long distances and difficult terrain but also has high-security encryption.

There aren’t many details about the smartphone’s interior changes yet, but it’s seen to be wrapped in a very thick case, and painted with the contours of the American military uniform.

S20 Tactical Edition
S20 Tactical Edition

The Galaxy S20 TE can be connected to army tactical radios and mission systems via Private SIM, 5G, Wi-Fi 6, and 3.5Ghz (reserved for Marina satellite communications – land.) Also, this Galaxy has a special setting on the screen, which makes it visible for night glasses as well it has a “stealth mode” as airplane mode but more extreme, which deactivates LTE, and any RF signal.

Unfortunately, Samsung does not list a price for the product, which suggests that we will probably never see it on the market for the consumer.

Workplace Rooms

Facebook creates a version of Messenger Rooms for business companies

Called Workplace Rooms, the new service can host videos and conversations of up to 50 people simultaneously

Last week Facebook introduced Messenger Rooms, a video chat service and a potential competitor to Zoom. The social network will now bring this service to the Workplace platform, which is Facebook’s alternative to Slack.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

There is no limit on how long the meetings should be and you should not be part of the Workplace to join a conversation. Workplace users can create a video call through a link in Workplace Chat, Groups, News Feed, or Portal and share it in a chat, email, post or SMS.

The creators of a video call can block the entry of others in the group, remove participants while the latter has the opportunity to share the computer screen during the conversation.

The Facebook movement pushes the social network into a direct competition with Zoom. It’s also a blow to Slack that last month added the Microsoft Teams video calling option.

According to Facebook, Workplace had 5 million paid users, an increase of 2 million since October 2019. As with any other video-conferencing service, Workplace Rooms must gain the trust of users before they fall prey to privacy scandals as in the case of Zoom.

Ryzen 3 3100 AMD’s budget processor reaches a record frequency of nearly 6Ghz

This processor will go on sale on June 16

AMD’s budget processor, Ryzen 3 3100, has been boosted to 6Ghz, very close to the Ryzen 9 3950X model record. The TSAIK enthusiast has managed to boost the frequency of a $99 processor like the Ryzen 3 3100 to 5.92Ghz using liquid nitrogen.

Ryzen 3 3100 has four 1.45-volt cores and has been tested on a Tomahawk MSI X570 board with 8GB of RAM. The achieved frequency is the second highest for a Zen 2. processor. The one that has reached the highest frequency was the Ryzen 9 3950X with 6,041Ghz.

AMD’s budget processor will become one of the most popular solutions for gaming computers. It has a base frequency of 3.6Ghz and a turbo of 3.9Ghz. At Cinebench R20 received 2,315 points and the GeekBench 4,910 points or 8% and 16% less than the more expensive Core i5-9600K model.

Samsung revealed the new 50MP ISOCELL GN1 camera sensor for smartphones

With the ISOCELL GN1 sensor, Samsung’s priority is a high resolution and fast autofocus.

Samsung today unveiled the new 50-megapixel sensor called ISOCELL GN1. It is Samsung’s first dual-pixel autofocus sensor and tetracell combination, offering higher performance and better image quality in low light.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

The pixel size is 1.2μm, almost as much as a conventional camera sensor offers. The main competitor to this sensor is the Sony IMX689, which is found in phones like the Oppo Find X2 Pro and has a 48-megapixel 1.22μm size.

Normally the Samsung sensor will capture 12.5-megapixel photos with four pixels combined into a single one. The advent of the dual-pixel autofocus is valuable because Samsung has failed in this space.

The Galaxy S20 Ultra, which has a 108-megapixel sensor without dual-pixel technology, has suffered from autofocus performance. Samsung says it is testing a solution even though it has not yet implemented it.
