Samsung reveals the 108-megapixel camera for smartphones

While the megapixel camera war seems to have resumed, Samsung is among the first to launch an offensive. The company revealed the 108-megapixel sensor for smartphones, a sensor that will most likely be displayed on Xiaomi‘s upcoming Redmi phone.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″ tdc_css=””]

It’s called ISOCELL Bright HMX and was developed by Samsung in collaboration with Xiaomi. It’s one of the largest 1/1.33-inch camera sensors ever produced. Even at this size, the 108-megapixel sensor will have very small pixels. Tetracell technology will collect light by four pixels and the 108-megapixel sensor will produce 27-megapixel photos.

But if you want you can still produce 108-megapixel photos but you will need an ambient with enough light.

Samsung’s Smart-ISO mechanism will select a small ISO in high light and a large ISO in low light. We hope Xiaomi gives users control over these configurations. Along with high resolution photos and clear low-light photos, the sensor will enable video recording at 6K at 30fps.

Samsung’s latest cameras have been criticized for poor performance in low light especially when compared to cameras like the P30 Pro that use Sony chips. By increasing the size of the camera chip, Samsung can eventually address this problem.

At the same time the bigger the camera of a smartphone, the less reason for consumers to buy dedicated and compact cameras. Production of the new chip begins at the end of this month, Samsung said.

Galaxy Book S

A laptop with the essence of a smartphone, Samsung introduces the Galaxy Book S

We were expecting at least one surprise from Samsung yesterday and we got it. At the end of the Unpacked event, Samsung debuted the Galaxy Book S, a slim, lightweight system created in collaboration with Microsoft and Qualcomm.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

The laptop comes with Windows 10 on a Qualcomm processor. One of the biggest benefits of Qualcomm‘s chip is its crazy battery life of 23 hours with a single charge according to the company.

Galaxy Book S has a USB-C port on both sides which means you can charge it with the Galaxy Note 10 adapter. For this reason, the company was very proactive with Windows accountancy for the Note 10. Microsoft even acquired CEO Satya Nadella to discuss the growing partnership between the two companies.

Inside the laptop hides an eight-core Snapdragon 8cx 7-nanometer processor. Comes in two colors and has a 13-inch touch screen. Samsung says it resembles a laptop but has the essence of a smartphone thanks to the chip and LTE connectivity. The laptop has 720p HD front camera, 8GB of RAM, microSD port, fingerprint sensor, light sensor, AKG stereo speakers and Dolby Atmos technology.

Galaxy Book S goes on sale in September for $999.

The Note 10+ 5G model will cost $1,300

As it did with the Galaxy S10, Samsung will sell a 5G version of the Galaxy Note 10. And just like the S10 5G, the Note 10+ 5G will be the franchise of mobile operators that have launched their own 5G networks around the world.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″ tdc_css=””]

In the US the phone will sell for $1,299 for the 256GB model and $1,399 for the 512GB model.

The 5G versions will go on sale on the same day as the standard versions and will be available for the Note 10 and Note 10+.

With the exception of 5G, phones want have any hardware advantage over the standard models. Note 10 Plus 5G will have the same 6.8-inch screen and the same camera setup.

Today the only reason not to buy a Note 10 5G is the availability of the 5G network. Also the companies around the world that have released 5G networks, its availability is very limited.

Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ officially Launched

8 years ago Galaxy Note is a phone that cannot be ignored. The original model, introduced at IFA 2011, looked huge, full 5.3-inches.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

Nearly a decade on and hundreds of millions of smartphones sold, the line has undoubtedly transformed the way we view and use mobile devices.

Certainly the Stylus pencil has not become an indispensable element for devices other than the Note series, but the entire industry has changed its mind about large screens and productivity thanks to this phone.

Apple also came one day, and today the average screen size of a smartphone is 5.5 inches. With the battle of big screens winning, Samsung has another in hand.

The smartphone market has stalled, even retreating, and for the first time companies have a difficult mission in their hands. How can they make their products constantly compelling?

The problem is that companies have been the ones to set themselves up with shoulder on the wall. Smartphones have become so good that users do not have to switch phones so often. Top models have become very expensive starting at $1,000. Between the S series and the Note Samsung has left a cycle of only six months and these phones are used to bring the latest technologies. Also the differences between them have been eliminated and the S Pen is the only option that changes them.

With the introduction of the Note 10 and Note 10+, Samsung is trying to give users a secondary flagship. Like the S line, the Note is split into two different devices (actually three if we consider the 5G model). The standard Note 10 model took a step back in screen size.

The base model switches from 6.4 to 6.3 inches but why? Samsung believes that a smaller screen makes the device easier to use. But seeing that the Note 10+ has the same size of the Note 9, users immediately realize how compact the Note 10 is.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_5″]

The ratio between the screen and the body of the smartphone is impressive. Today the 5.3-inch is nothing compared to the size of the 2019 screens, but then it was a big step forward.

Perhaps you’ve seen endless leaked images of phones that have proven to be true. It’s a beautiful phone. Samsung has worked harder with the curves, leaving an almost an inexistent frame. The camera cutout on the S10+ has been removed in favor of a small hole in the center of the screen. Samsung said it has given up to a dual selfie camera to upgrade a single camera through software and artificial intelligence.

One very important detail missing is the 3.5mm headphone jack. After making fun of Apple for several years, the company is doing what the iPhone giant did three years ago. Large batteries are back with the 3,500 mAh on the Note 10 and the 4,300 mAh on the Note+.

To help eliminate the 3.5mm headset, Samsung has included a pair of USB-C AKG headphones in the package that will cost you. Also the dedicated Bixby button is no longer available and the virtual assistant can be activated by holding down the power button.

Samsung is still investing in virtual assistant but overall it has reduced the momentum of the early days. On the back of the phone is a 16-megapixel super wide-angle camera, a standard 12-megapixel wide-angle and a 12-megapixel telephoto.

The Note 10+ also adds a Time-of-Flight sensor to add image depth. It’s a small difference between the two phones for the screen and the battery.

The camera software has some interesting extras like bokeh effect on video. Using gyroscope and machine learning, the camera system reduces the vibration in the picture. The TOF sensor brings a 3D camera scanner and users can scan an object and convert it into a moving design element.

Zoom-in Mic is another very interesting option which uses microphones to direct the sound source to the point where you have focused the camera. Night Mode has been added to the 10-megapixel selfie camera for low-light selfie.

The stylus S Pen has adopted a solid unified design. Samsung has made it possible to create customized gestures with this device. DeX continues to be a part of Samsung conferences. The company says the data copying function between Note and a Mac or PC with drag-and-drop has been improved. Still the DeX brand is blurry at this point and looks more like a show than a real product.

Finally inside the Note 10 and Note 10+ you’ll find a Snapdragon 855 processor coupled with 8GB of RAM on the Note 10 and 12GB of RAM on the Note 10+. Both versions have 256GB of basic storage while the Note 10+ has 512GB.

Orders are open from today, August 8th. The phones are in stores on August 23. The Note 10 starts at $950 and the Note 10+ starts at $1,100. Packaging for today’s orders are even the Charging Duo adapter and the Galaxy Watch Active smartwatch.

A 5G variant of the Note 10+ will also be sold at the same time, though it will be a franchise for operators that have launched 5G in the US or elsewhere in the world. Price for this model was not announced by Samsung.

Confirmed by Samsung, the Note 10 comes in two sizes

Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10 Plus in New York tomorrow. But if you don’t want to wait until tomorrow to find out more, the Note 10 suffered another leak this time from Samsung’s own marketing materials.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

According to them, the Note 10 will have a 6.3-inch display while the Note 10 Plus will have a 6.8-inch display, both with “hole-punch” cameras. As expected the S-Pen will have some new tricks like gestures in the air and switching from one camera lens to another.

Also Note 10 is supposed to have super fast charging technology which delivers several hours of battery life with just a few minutes of charging.

But marketing materials do not go into details of every specific but says that the Note 10 can capture beautiful portraits, beautiful landscapes and clear photos at close range and at any level of light.

Finally the phones have “Audio Zoom” microphones that will work to hear audio coming from the object you have focused on in the video. LG offered a similar feature to the V30 a few years ago but this Note 10 is expected to perform better.

Samsung Galaxy Book S Laptop has a lot of resemblance with Microsoft Surface

Reporter Evan Blas, has shared pictures showing this square-shaped laptop, one-color keypad, and large touch screen space.

While the top is not visible, the sides look like other laptops from Samsung, only that this new one is much thinner.

Specs have not been released, though the USB-C port and headphone jack are expected, while it is expected to have a Snapdragon 855 processor and 8GB of RAM.

It is already seen that with this laptop, Samsung will rival Microsoft, only it is not known when it will launch.

Galaxy Tab S6

Galaxy Tab S6 is Samsung’s next attempt to challenge the iPad

The newest competitor of Apple iPad Pro and Microsoft Surface Pro comes with a stylus pen included in the package and an optional keyboard.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

The tablet goes on sale September 6 for $649 for a model with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of memory. The version with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of memory will cost $720.

Samsung says it will sell an LTE model by the end of the year. Currently the Tab S6 stands at the top of the line of Samsung tablets including the low-end Galaxy Tab A and high-end Tab S5e.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_5″]

It has a 16:10 10.5-inch OLED display with a 2560 × 1600 resolution, much like the Tab S4 but Samsung has reduced the screen frame. The latter features a fingerprint scanner.

Samsung has also reduced the tablet’s thickness to just 5.7mm and weighs 420 grams. On its sides are four speakers, two in each. The Tab S6 has a Snapdragon 855 processor and a 7,040 mAh battery for 15 hours of usage.

At the back of the tablet is a dual camera with a standard lens and a 123-degree wide-angle lens. Also on the back is a magnetic boost which makes the stylus pencil stick to the tablet.

This pencil has features similar to that of the Galaxy Note 9 such as activating the button camera or sliding a PowerPoint document. Samsung has redesigned the keyboard to include a smaller trackpad. It costs $179. In terms of software the Tab S6 comes with Android 9 Pie and version 1.5 of the Samsung One UI interface.

In size and functionality, the Tab S6 is more of an iPad Air competitor than the expensive iPad Pro model. But Air costs much less but it has a more developed operating system and application ecosystem than the Tab S6.

As for the Samsung solution, it’s hard to hear anyone today choosing a Samsung tablet as opposed to an Apple option. Maybe with Microsoft Surface there might have a chance.

Galaxy Note 10 may have a 'wiser' camera than the Galaxy S10

Galaxy Note 10 may have a ‘wiser’ camera than the Galaxy S10

Samsung phones typically create impressions on the front of the camera and the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 series is likely to be no exception, with the latest rumors pointing to ‘Smart ISO‘ and ‘AI-ISO‘.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″ tdc_css=””]

What exactly is ‘Smart ISO’ or ‘AI-ISO’?

For now we can only speculate, but the names sound like ISO will be enabled by AI artificial intelligence, allowing it to automatically adapt to what you are running, and potentially meaning it can learn your preferences with over time, so the phone is better able to automatically select an ISO with which you are satisfied.

ISO is the sensitivity measurement of the camera sensor, which is useful for ‘viewing’ light or extra colors. This can especially help to improve low light pictures, where a higher ISO can usually be useful.

LetsGoDigital also speculates that the concentration in ISO may mean that the Galaxy Note 10 will offer a larger amount of ISO than 50-800 offered by the Samsung Galaxy S10 series.

This is a credible theory, given that rival phones such as Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium and Huawei P30 have a much larger range, but now it’s just speculation. We will know more soon, as we expect Samsung’s future lines of equipment to be launched on August 7.

New leak reveal full specifications of Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+

So far we have seen many details about the battery’s capacity and future S-PEN features of Note10, but the new leak reveal all the specifications for Galaxy Note10 and Galaxy Note10+.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″ tdc_css=””]

These smartphones will be launched in just over two weeks, August 7, at a special event in New York City.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 will feature a 6.3-inch screen with 1080p resolution which, due to the high ratio, will be FHD+. The panel will be an Infinity O unit with a hole that accommodates the front camera. Note 10 will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 or Samsung Exynos 9825 processor, depending on the region, and will be supported by 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. The triple camera at the back consists of a 12MP + 12MP + 16MP system and the battery is estimated to be 3.500mAh, with 25W fast charging capability.

By contrast, the Galaxy Note10+ will feature a 6.8-inch screen with 1440p resolution, which corresponds to QHD+. Everything is identical to the regular unit, in addition to 12GB of RAM, an additional ToF sensor for the camera system and the largest 4500mAh battery with 45W fast charging.

Why Note 10 should not be the next Samsung flagship you want to buy

Why Note 10 should not be the next Samsung flagship you want to buy

Moreover Samsung does things even worse. In a press release, the company announced the launch of mass-production LPDDR5 for smartphones, which is 30% faster and 30% more efficient than any other memory in the market.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″ tdc_css=””]

This memory goes on sale a month before the Galaxy Note 10 arrives, but what’s the problem with this? It will not be inside Note 10.

WinFuture insider reveals that the new RAM memory is not compatible with Snapdragon 855 and 855+ processors and is designed for the Snapdragon 865 that will come with the Galaxy S11.

The smartphone in question is being advertised as a new beginning for Samsung. And this is the problem with Note 10 that debuts in August as it arrives three months before Qualcomm launches a new generation of processors. So the phone will always spend most of his life behind the Galaxy S line, which debuts in February/March.

It’s the same problem for Google Pixel 4. To help with the smartphone, Samsung will equip the Galaxy Note 10 with a charging technology that is faster than other smartphones accompanied by a beautiful design.

Note 10 will be the first Galaxy flagship without a 3.5mm headset. Of course, what keeps the faithful Note fans is definitely the iconic S-Pen pencil.
