Vivo X50

The Vivo X50 Pro becomes the first smartphone with a “gimbal” camera system

Smartphone cameras have advanced a lot lately, while manufacturers are managing to further adapt them in the most innovative ways

Chinese manufacturer Vivo, known for its photo-oriented phones, has launched the new phone in the X50, X50 Pro and X50 Pro+ versions. In the last two versions, the “gimbal” camera system has been applied, which has never been used before on any smartphone.

Initially, the gimbal is called a mechanism, usually composed of rings directed at right angles, to hold the instrument like a compass or chronometer horizontally when it is on a moving ship or aircraft.

Placing the camera in a gimbal enables it to take the best shots, although it is experiencing considerable vibration. The Gimbal Camera System is a small gimbal module that moves the camera in opposite directions of vibrational movements, providing clearer images. This system expands the angle of rotation as well as the anti-oscillation zone, compared to other stabilization methods.

Vivo X50 and Vivo X50 Pro Specs

Both Vivo X50 and Vivo X50 Pro have a 6.56-inch AMOLED display with 2376 x 1080p screen resolution, supports 90Hz refresh rate, and have an under-screen fingerprint sensor. The smartphones weigh below 200g, specifically 173 grams the X50 and X50 Pro weighs 181.5 grams making then the lightest 5G smartphones.

They will be available worldwide

The OnePlus Nord debuted this summer, but the Chinese company phone is only available in India and some countries in Europe. But now two new models have been revealed that will be available worldwide.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

OnePlus yesterday unveiled a new pair of Nord line phones for the mid-range segment, the N10 5G and N100 models, devices that according to the company are a new step in offering smart and cheap phones in the market. Both phones are priced below the price of 399 euros of OnePlus Nord and will be sold in Europe, Asia and America.

It has a slightly larger screen 6.49-inch FHD than the OnePlus Nord and the same refresh rate of 90Hz. The fingerprint scanner is not under the screen but located on the back of the phone. However, buyers get stereo speakers, something the Nord lacked. The 4,300 mAh battery is charged via 30W technology. The N10 5G has four rear cameras: 64-megapixel, 119-degree ultra-wide, a macro, and a monochrome. Selfies are produced by a 16-megapixel sensor.

The N100 is the cheapest model with a 6.52-inch HD+ display with two stereo speakers. The battery has a massive capacity of 5,000 mAh but can only be charged with 18W. RAM memory is 4GB and a total of 64GB of storage. The main camera is 13-megapixel while accompanied by two other portrait and macro cameras. The fingerprint scanner is located on the back.

OnePlus 8T

OnePlus continues to make good and cheap smartphones like the 8T

Not the cheapest possible, but $749 for what the OnePlus 8T offers are more than justifiable

If one finds the latest OnePlus smartphones a bit expensive, the company brings the 8th generation T version this time around.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

A massive 6.55″ screen which refreshes 120 times per second. Superfast charge Warp Charge 65. The 4,450mAh battery needs to be charged for a full day of use in just 15 minutes and a full charge takes 40 minutes. Four cameras will come to the OnePlus 8T. 48MP main camera with OIS, 16MP with ultra-wide-angle, as well as a macro camera and a monochrome.

The departure of the company’s co-founder Carl Pei can be interpreted as a bad omen for the company, but with the new smartphones, TVs and the entire line of products expected it does not look like that at all. He has stated that he is making this departure to dedicate himself more to his family and to pursue some old dreams.

Huawei Mate 40 Pro revealed: 50MP camera and 90Hz screen

A sleek design, excellent screen, and a capable camera but do they fill the biggest problem of this phone?

You could say that Huawei is towards the end, but their latest smartphone says a totally different thing. Bigger screen, better resolution, faster charging, and of course an unrivaled camera from anyone on the market.

The Mate 40 Pro is Huawei’s latest super phone, which the company hopes to compete with the iPhone 12 Pro and Samsung’s Galaxy S20 and Note series. A phone with an attractive body, packed with the latest high technology and 5G. But while there are strong specifications on paper, it suffers from a major problem.

The Camera

The main sensor has been increased from 40MP to 50MP. It manages to shoot in 4K at 60 fps but also slow-motion clips at 1080p at 480 fps and 3,840 fps at 720p. YES, you read it well, as many frames per second as you can film even one bullet coming out of the pistol. The Cine camera has a 20MP sensor and an ultra-wide-angle and is the first camera on a smartphone to remove distortion features. The 125mm periscope returns to the other 12MP sensor and this time reaches up to 5x zoom unlike the 3x of the predecessor.

Unlike the standard version, the Pro reaches up to 10x optical zoom, for results we have to wait for testing.

The Screen

The 6.73″ OLED display is pretty much a jump from the 6.53″ of the Mate P30. The resolution has also been increased to 1,344 x 2,772px. And apparently, Huawei has decided to still be among the Android with side curved screen, even pretty curved, 88° arc. Do not be afraid, the physical buttons are still present. The refresh rate does not go more than 90Hz while the boxes are stereo and equipped with 3D sound.

The Battery

The battery has also received special treatment. The capacity remains 4,400mAh but the speed at which it is charged is quite higher. With a USB-C cable, it can reach up to 66W of charge. With wireless it reaches up to 50W, surprising!

The power chip is the Kirin 9000 and joins Apple in the 5nm architecture. Undoubtedly the 5G modem is present in both mmWave and sub6 infrastructures. The Huawei Mate 40 Pro will come to Europe with only an 8GB/256GB configuration with a memory card space. The bold $1,200 price tag will bring a range of colors.

Pro+ uses ceramic materials and reaches up to 12GB RAM. Huawei is here and does not intend to leave, this is definitely confirmed by the Porsche version present this time as well.

Huawei Mate 40 series prices

  • Huawei Mate 40: 899 euros
  • Huawei Mate 40 Pro: 1,199 euros
  • Huawei Mate 40 Pro Plus: 1,399 euros
  • Porsche Design Mate 40 RS: 2,295 euros
  • Huawei FreeBuds Studio: 299 euros.

But is it worth it?

Due to the ongoing restrictions imposed by the US government, Huawei phones can not use any Google services, including Gmail, Maps and Chrome and, most importantly, the Google Play Store. While Huawei has its own app store (for which I will come later) it is nowhere to rival Google and makes this phone difficult to recommend to any of its rivals.

Google Pixel 5

Google Pixel 5 and 4a 5G officially revealed

The Pixel 5 costs $699 while the Pixel 4a 5G starts at $499. The standard non-5G Pixel 4a costs $399

Finally confirming everything, Google has decided to look the market from another angle and strives to offer flagship quality at more affordable prices. With the latest line of Pixel phones unveiled on Wednesday, Google decided to pull out of the big smartphone battle by focusing more on the consumer and budget models than the Premium segment dominated by Apple and Samsung with smartphones costing over $1,000.

The Pixel 5 costs $699 and the Pixel 4a 5G starts at $499. The standard non-5G Pixel 4a costs $399. These low normal prices have their cost because both phones have less powerful processors and not as a high-quality screen as the high ranking Samsung and Apple phones.

Both phones come with 5G technology. Pixel 5 is powered by a Snapdragon 765G processor which is a step below the Snapdragon 865 or 865 Plus but accompanied by Qualcomm’s X52 5G modem. It’s a big twist on Google’s usual Pixel strategy. Pixel 5 differs from 4a in IPX8 resistance, wireless charging of devices, more RAM, higher quality Gorilla Glass 6.

The 6-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 2,340 x 1,080 pixels (432 ppi) of Pixel 5 will be full HD+ and will have a modest refresh rate of 90Hz. RAM up to 8GB, 128 GB of storage, 4080mAh battery with 18W USB-C fast charging, and against what was thought will support both sub-6Ghz but also mmWave 5G. As expected, the fingerprint sensor will be on the back of the device.

Like the Pixel 5, the Pixel 4a has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor. The Pxiel 4a 5G battery has been upgraded compared to 4a and comes with an output of 3,885 mAh.

A wide-angle camera

The strong point will always remain the camera which despite having only two sensors one 12MP with 77 degrees of field of view and another 16MP with 107 degrees its software will lift the most weight. Thus, new AI-powered options are Portrait Light, Cinematic Pan, and three new video stabilization modes. The front camera has an 8-megapixel sensor and offers portrait mode but also Night Mode.

The camera should be able to record full HD video at 240 fps and 4K video at 60 fps. With improved timing and slow motion as well as image stabilization, better video quality should be achieved.

With the new models Google will address a major user concern, battery life. The new Extreme Battery Saver mode will increase battery life by up to 48 hours leaving only vital applications running. This mode will also be offered for older Pixel models.

A cheap price

The Pixel 4a 5G will cost $499, the Pixel 5 will be cheaper than its predecessor and should only cost $699. The Pixel 4a 5G should be available from October 15 in Japan and from November in 8 other countries. The Pixel 5 will also launch on October 15, at least in the US.

All three smartphones are similar in design, but the main difference and what it really should be is in their performance. The 10T and 10T Pro have a 6.67-inch full HD+ display with 1080 x 2400 pixels and HDR10+ and a crazy 144Hz refresh rate. Such a frequency is available from a high-end gaming monitor and gaming smartphone. While the Lite version comes with a more “modest” scale of 120Hz.

It is somewhat unusual that Xiaomi relies on an LCD screen for all its Mi-10T devices and leaves out an AMOLED screen. For this reason, the fingerprint sensor is not integrated into the screen.

The first two devices use a powerful Snapdragon 865 SoC 5G processor and 8GB RAM. Lite has the latest Snapdragon 750G SoC mid-range processor and only 6GB of RAM. The battery of all three is the same, 5000mAh where Lite has a very small difference. Standard charging for all 33W. Wireless charging should also work, but Xiaomi does not provide information about charging power. In the box is also included a 33W USB-C charger.

The camera department is what makes the difference.

The Mi 10T Lite has a set of 4 cameras 64MP main, 8MP ultra-wide, 2MP macro, and 2MP depth sensor. The Mi 10T has only three, 64MP main camera, 13MP ultra-wide, and a 5MP macro.

The magic is certainly saved for the superior Mi 10T Pro with a 108MP main sensor with optical image stabilization, another 13MP ultra-wide, and a 5MP macro lens. With this camera configuration, 8K videos can be recorded at 30 fps. The selfie camera is hidden in a small camera hole in the screen and has 20 MP.

Depending on the selection, prices start at €279 for the Lite, €499 for the Mi 10T, and €599 for the cheaper version of the Mi 10T Pro.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition

Samsung brings what we asked. This is the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition

The S20 Fan Edition is a bridge between the mid-range and the flagship segment

OnePlus has established itself as one of the leading players in the budget smartphone market. Samsung had made the phones quite expensive and lowering their price was not a proper option. So they decided another strategy and this is probably the clearest indication that Samsung is still in competition with the OnePlus.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

Long rumored, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition is officially announced, and as the name implies, it comes especially for the love of the most ardent fans. Said without romanticism, the FE is a pack of the best options from the Galaxy S20, and through some compromises, comes at a more affordable price for anyone.

The 6.5-inch AMOLED display has a refresh rate of 120Hz but the resolution is limited to Full HD. It also comes with 128GB of internal memory but you can expand it via SD cards up to 1TB. It has the same Snapdragon 865 chip as the S20 flagships, but only 6GB of RAM instead of 12GB. The 4,500 mAh Fast Charge 2.0 battery and IP68 dust and water protection should offer pretty good performance.

Even the rear camera is what you get from a $1,000 Samsung smartphone. The Fan Edition (FE) has a standard 12-megapixel camera with f/1.8 aperture, dual-pixel autofocus, optical image stabilization. The main sensor is accompanied by a super wide-angle 12-megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture, an 8-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and 30x hybrid as well as a 32-megapixel selfie camera. It certainly does not offer the luxury of the original S20, but the hardware looks quite good, moreover, AI and dedicated software should bring competition results.

Samsung Fan Edition phones are designed to eliminate the gap between the flagship’s Galaxy S and Note and the mid-range Galaxy A. Samsung has recently suffered with sales and now the Galaxy A51 has managed to enter the list of 10 best-selling smartphones in the first half of 2020. On the other hand, the Apple iPhone 11 has sold like crazy and is the smartphone of the year.

Royole FlexPai 2 5G

The budget foldable phone Royole FlexPai 2 5G costs $1,470

CEO Bill Liu announced that the FlexPai 2 is on sale through the Royole website

At the end of March, we were introduced to an early look at the second generation of foldable-screen phone, the Royole FlexPai 2 5G. This phone comes with a flexible OLED panel and a format similar to Huawei Mate X.

The new panel should have a better folding angle, better screen performance, and most importantly wrinkle reduction during folding. FlexPai 2 should have debuted in the first quarter of 2020 but today the wait is over.

In a virtually broadcast event, CEO Bill Liu announced that the FlexPai 2 is on sale through the Royole website. The base model has 8GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS3.0 storage priced at $1,470 while the 12GB/512GB variant costs $1,710. Both are already available for sale.

The fodable screen is a step forward for Royole. The panel of Flexpai 2 folds outwards thus becoming a dual-screen smartphone when the hinge is at 180 degrees. This technology is called Cicada Wing 3S by the company and it is “mirror-like smooth”, no creases whatsoever after over 1,8 million folds.

Compared to the competition Royole has set quite aggressive prices. The Huawei Mate X costs $2,510 while Samsung is asking $1,999 for the Galaxy Z Fold 2.

The FlexPai 2 has a Snapdragon 865 processor, 7.8-inch unfolded panel 1920 × 1440 pixels with 4:3 ratio, four rear cameras and stereo speakers.

Folded the main screen is a 16:9 5.5-inches while the one after the secondary is 5.4-inches with a 16:10 ratio. The main sensor of the rear cameras is 64-megapixel. The phone comes with Android 10 with its dedicated WaterOS 2.0 interface and a 4,450 mAh battery with QC 4.0 fast-charging capabilities at 18 W.

The phone supports 5G connectivity with all the popular bands, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, and has a USB-C 3.1 port. It will be sold through JD.com’s own website and will be available starting from September 25 in three color variants Silver, Black or Gold.

LG WING 5G

LG WING 5G revealed with dual-screen and a very interesting concept

LG surprises with its new dual-screen 5G smartphone with a very interesting concept

Folding screens, or a dual-screen, are apparently the only products in a greedy market that still generate any kind of attention. LG has achieved this with its new Wing 5G smartphone.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

Korean tech giant LG on Monday unveiled a smartphone with a screen which rotates to reveal a second smaller screen beneath it. The second screen of the LG Wing can function either completely independent of the main screen or accompany it by serving as a gaming controller and media contents of the first screen.

Unusual T shape

In a normal condition, the smartphone is presented with a conventional vertical screen. A second screen is hidden below. Users can rotate the 6.8-inch FHD+ P-OLED home screen to a horizontal position, for example, to watch videos in widescreen mode. This gives a view of a vertical, second 3.9-inch G-OLED screen, and 1240 x 1080 pixels across its face, that can be used for applications, information, or other notifications.

Four cameras and 5G

Form the back, there is a set of three cameras, a 64MP main camera, a 13MP wide-angle lens with 117-degree field of view, and a 12MP “ultra-wide with Hexa Motion Sensors. On the front there is a 32MP pop-up camera.

LG Wing packs a 4000mAh battery and comes with Android 10. It also features Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity, NFC, USB-C (USB 3.1 Gen 1 compatible), and some interesting special features.

– Dual Recording
– LG 3D Sound Engine
– In-display Fingerprint Sensor
– Hexa Motion Stabilization (as noted above)
– Wireless Charging
– Gimbal Motion Camera

Under the hood, it packs Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G 5G SoC with an X52 5G modem, 8GB of RAM, and up to 256GB of storage which can be expended up to 2TB through the micro SD card slot available.

The company said it has taken steps to protect the phone from accidental damage due to the hardware it has. The internal accelerometer detects if the smartphone is falling by closing the pop-up camera if it is open. The axis of the rotating screen is equipped with hydraulic shock absorbers that absorb shocks. While the back of the main screen has a material which prevents scratching of the secondary screen. LG claims that the shaft resists 200 thousand rotations.

LG WING 5G Prices and Availability

The LG WING 5G is one of the most radical designs we have seen in recent years. The phone goes on sale next month in South Korea. But it will soon be sold in Europe and the US as well, while its price remains unknown. It will be available in two colors including Aurora Gray and Illusion Sky.
